Westmount Rugby Club

	Westmount Rugby Club The Westmount Rugby Football Club is a Canadian rugby club based in Westmount, Quebec, Westmount, Quebec. Despite McGill University having a team in 1874, Westmount, which claims to have been established in 1876, is the oldest independent (as opposed to college-affiliated) rugby club in North America. Under the title of Montreal Football Club, the club played its matches at the McGill University grounds. The club gathered for social matches and occasions, and never really grew in size until it associated itself with the newly founded Montreal Amateur Athletic Association – which was to become the premier sporting club at the turn of the century and figure prominently in the development of rugby in Montreal, Quebec, and ultimately the Dominion of Canada. picture info	Westmount Park Westmount Park (french: Parc Westmount) is a public park in Westmount, Quebec, Canada. It is located on Sherbrooke Street West. History In 1892, the city of Westmount purchased of land for a park in order to preserve its rustic appearance. A few years later, the park was expanded its boundaries from Sherbrooke Street to Western Avenue (today De Maisonneuve Boulevard). Since its expansion, it has occupied of land. In 1899, Quebec's first public library (Victoria Hall) was built in the park. In 1912, J. Howard Manning landscaped the park on behalf of the city. The park's design was inspired by the work of Frederick Law Olmsted, the landscape architect of Mount Royal. The park was designed around existing natural streams, ravines and wooded areas. Flowerbeds were planted and a bandstand was constructed. In 1964, the park was renovated by the firm McFadzean & Everly. 	Montreal Wanderers RFC The Montreal Wanderers Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was founded in 1957, and is based on the grounds of the Douglas Hospital in Verdun. Establishment The Montreal Wanderers Rugby Club was conceived in the Spring of 1957. The Barbarians, the legendary touring allstar team from the UK, had just beaten a team of Quebec select players 41-3 at Delormier stadium in front of 5000 fans. Cliff Morgan, legendary fly half for the Barbarians, was reported to have told his Quebec hosts was that what Canada needed was more clubs.
