Westferry
Westferry is a station on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), at the junction of Limehouse Causeway and Westferry Road in Limehouse in London Docklands, England. The station is located in Travelcard Zone 2. To the west is Limehouse station, whilst to the east the DLR splits, with one branch going to Poplar station and the other to West India Quay station. Location The DLR station was built midway between the site of the old Limehouse and West India Docks stations on the disused London and Blackwall Railway. Limehouse Police Station is nearby, as is St Anne's Church, built by Nicholas Hawksmoor and boasting London's tallest church clock tower. The station is also close to Westferry Circus and Canary Wharf Pier. Etymology Westferry station is in Limehouse and given its proximity to the former Limehouse station on the London & Blackwall Railway, could have been given this name, but instead Stepney East was renamed Limehouse and the DLR station there given that name. A1206 Road (Great Britain)
The A1206, also known as the Isle of Dogs Distributor Road, is a crescent-shaped ring road around the Isle of Dogs, in the East End of London. It is made up of Westferry Road, Manchester Road and Prestons Road and is the main road through the area, connecting parts of the London Docklands. Route From west to east, the road starts in Limehouse, then changes from Westferry Road to Manchester Road at Island Gardens. At Cubitt Town it crosses the entrance to the West India Docks via the Blue Bridge, a bascule bridge that allows ships to reach the docks. It then becomes Prestons Road, ending in Poplar. Several side roads and buildings along Westferry Road, such as Cuba Street and Spinnaker House, have names related to the historic connection the Isle of Dogs has with the shipping industry. Canary Wharf is an area of London, England, located near the Isle of Dogs in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Docklands Light Railway
The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) is an automated light metro system serving the redeveloped Docklands area of London, England and provides a direct connection between London's two major financial districts, Canary Wharf and the City of London. First opened on 31 August 1987, the DLR has been extended multiple times, giving a total route length of . Lines now reach north to Stratford, south to Lewisham, west to and in the City of London financial district, and east to Beckton, London City Airport and Woolwich Arsenal. West India Quay is a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station in Canary Wharf’s West India Quay. It is located at the point where the line from Lewisham splits into branches to Tower Gateway/Bank and Stratford. Limehouse Causeway
Limehouse Causeway is a street in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, East London that was home to the original Chinatown of London. A combination of bomb damage during the Second World War and later redevelopment means that almost nothing is left of the original buildings of the street. Location Limehouse Causeway runs from the junction of Narrow Street and Three Colt Street in the west to Westferry Road in the east. On its northern side it is joined by Gill Street and Salter Street. On the south side it is joined by Milligan Street. Poplar is a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station in Poplar in London, England. Limehouse Station
Limehouse is a National Rail and connected Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station in Limehouse, London, England. It is served by regional services operated by c2c to and from Fenchurch Street, and by light metro services provided by the DLR to and from Tower Gateway or Bank. On the main line, Limehouse is located from Fenchurch Street and the following station is West Ham; on the DLR it is between Shadwell and Westferry in Travelcard Zone 2. The station was opened by the Commercial Railway (later the London and Blackwall Railway) in 1840 with the name Stepney. West India Docks Railway Station
West India Docks was a railway station in Limehouse, east London, that was opened by the Commercial Railway (later the London and Blackwall Railway) in 1840. It was situated between Limehouse and Millwall Junction stations, down-line from . As the name implies, the station served the West India Docks, though it was located on the north side of the northernmost of the three docks; the LBR was later extended to a new Millwall Docks station to serve the other two docks. West India Docks station opened on 6 July 1840. It was closed to passenger service on 4 May 1926, along with the rest of the LBR east of Stepney. The station, including its timber platforms, was demolished in 1931-34 and today no trace of it remains, and the surrounding area has been heavily redeveloped. Canary Wharf Pier
Canary Wharf is a London River Services pier on the River Thames in Canary Wharf, London. It is located next to Westferry Circus. Services It is served by two commuter oriented services, both operated by Thames Clippers under licence from London River Services. The main commuter service from central London or Woolwich calls at Canary Wharf Pier on a regular basis. The Canary Wharf - Rotherhithe Ferry, also operated by Thames Clippers, links Canary Wharf Pier with Nelson Dock Pier at the Hilton Hotel in Rotherhithe. The service uses smaller boats than the commuter service but runs at a higher frequency of roughly every 10 minutes. The ferry can be used both by guests of the hotel as well as by passengers not staying at the hotel. Since 2013 boats have run direct as far as Fulham & Putney (the RB6 service), taking roughly one hour. The evening direct service departs at 1750.
