Western Ore Mountains
The Western Ore Mountains (german: Westerzgebirge) is a natural region that forms the westernmost part of the Ore Mountains in the German state of Saxony. It is also part of the major landscape unit known as the Saxon Highlands and Uplands. It extends eastwards to include the valley of the Schwarzwasser, and, below its mouth, that of the Zwickauer Mulde, and incorporates the western parts of the former major units known as the Lower and Upper Western Ore Mountains (''Unteres und Oberes Westerzgebirge''), no. 423, as well as the Southern Slopes of the Ore Mountains (''Südabdachung des Erzgebirges''), no. 420. In the current classification system of natural regions, the Western Ore Mountains only covers the western part of the region that bore the same name in the preceding system, whilst the eastern part of that region is now part of the Central Ore Mountains. Elstergebirge
The Elster Mountains (german: Elstergebirge, cs, Halštrovské hory) is a small range of mountains, in Saxony and the Czech Republic, to the west of the Ore Mountains. They lie in a region known as Vogtland, and take their name from the River Elster, or more precisely the White Elster which has its source in these hills, near the Czech town of Aš. The valley of the Zwota marks the northeastern border of the Ore Mountains, while to the southwest the valley of the Eger between Selb and Libá separates them from the Fichtelgebirge. The highest points ''Hoher Brand'' with an elevation of 805m, Vysoký kámen (''Hoher Stein'') at 773 m, ''Háj u Aše'' (''Hainberg'') at 758 m and the Kapellenberg at 757 m. The Elster Mountains have many mineral-rich springs on which the spa towns of Bad Brambach and Bad Elster in Vogtlandkreis were founded; and the Czech spa of Františkovy Lázně (''Franzenbad'') was founded. Eibenstock
Eibenstock is a town in the western Ore Mountains, in the Erzgebirgskreis, Saxony, Germany. It is situated near the river Mulde. Geography Eibenstock has the following constituent communities: Eibenstock, Blauenthal, Wolfsgrün, Neidhardtsthal, Wildenthal, Oberwildenthal, Carlsfeld, Blechhammer, Neues Wiesenhaus, Sosa, Stabhammer, Wilzschmühle and Weitersglashütte. History Middle Ages Owing to its elevation of more than 600 m, Eibenstock would not have been one of the first farming villages in the Ore Mountains, but rather a longstanding settlement in the form of a radial forest homestead village, founded at the earliest sometime in the thirteenth century in what later became the Barony of Schwarzenberg. About 1.5 km from the edge of town, not far from where the Steinbächel empties into the Große Bockau, a ringwall was unearthed. Bockau
Bockau is a community in the district of Erzgebirgskreis in the Free State of Saxony in Germany. The community is known for growing and researching herbs. Owing to its centuries-old cultivation of angelica, whose roots are used in making liqueurs, Bockau is also known locally by the nickname ''Wurzelbucke'' (''Wurzel'' is German for “root”). Bad Schlema
Bad Schlema is a community in the district of Erzgebirgskreis in Saxony in Germany. It was merged into the new town Aue-Bad Schlema in January 2019. It belongs to the Silberberg Town League (''Städtebund Silberberg''). The Silver Road (''Silberstraße'') runs through the town. The community is developing its tourist industry, above all its spa facilities. Geography Bad Schlema's constituent communities are Oberschlema, Niederschlema and Wildbach. History Today's community of Bad Schlema is an amalgamation of the two formerly separate communities of Niederschlema and Oberschlema, which took place in 1958. Aue (Sachsen)
Aue () is a small town in Germany at the outlet of the river Schwarzwasser (Mulde), Schwarzwasser into the river Zwickauer Mulde in the Ore Mountains (Central Europe), Ore Mountains, and has roughly 16,000 inhabitants. It was merged into the new town Aue-Bad Schlema in January 2019. Aue was the administrative seat of the former district of Aue-Schwarzenberg in Saxony, and is part of the Erzgebirgskreis since August 2008. It belongs to the Silberberg Town League (''Städtebund Silberberg'') The mining town has been known for its copper, titanium, and kaolinite. Blatenský Vrch
The Blatenský vrch (german: Plattenberg) is one of the mountains over 1,000 metres high in the Ore Mountains of Central Europe in the immediate vicinity of Horní Blatná (Platten mining town). History The mountain massif consists mainly of granite. By the Early Modern Era there was a lively tin and iron ore mining industry in the area of the mountain, on the basis of which, the neighbouring mining town of Platten (now Horní Blatná) was founded in 1532.
