Western Canada High School
Western Canada High School (WCHS) is a public senior high school in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It has classes for grades 10 through 12. Western is located in the 17th Avenue business district of the Lower Mount Royal community, and is the most centrally located public high school in Calgary. In terms of academics, it is the top-ranked public high school in Calgary. History The original school building was completed in 1903 as an Egyptian-style exclusive high school for boys called Western Canada College (not a college in the North American sense of the word). It was created by "''The Western Canada College Bill of Incorporating Ordinance''" enacted by the Government of the Northwest Territories, which Calgary was then a part of before the province of Alberta was created in 1905. Reid Duke (ice Hockey)
Reid Duke (born January 28, 1996) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre who is currently playing for HC Slovan Bratislava of the Slovak Extraliga. He most recently played for the Henderson Silver Knights in the American Hockey League (AHL). Reid was the first player to sign a contract with the expansion Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League (NHL) in 2017. Jim Dinning
James Francis Dinning (born December 4, 1952) is a Canadian Progressive Conservative politician and businessman. He was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta (1986–1997), and now serves on the board of directors of a variety of Canadian companies. Dinning ran for the leadership of the Alberta Progressive Conservatives to replace Ralph Klein as Premier of Alberta. Dinning raised over 2 million dollars for his leadership bid but was ultimately defeated by leadership candidate Ed Stelmach when party members voted for Klein's replacement on December 2, 2006. Karen Marie Connelly (born 12 March 1969) is a Canadian travel writer, novelist and poet who has written extensively about her experiences living in Greece, Thailand and Canada. Life and work Connelly was born in Calgary, Alberta. At seventeen, she lived in a Thai village thanks to a Rotary exchange scholarship. She returned to Canada a year later. At nineteen, she left for Spain, where she lived almost two years. Having no work visa, she supported herself by, among other things, teaching English as a second language. Braids (band)
Braids (formerly stylized as BRAIDS) is a Canadian art rock band originating from Calgary, Alberta and based in Montréal, Québec for most of their career. Braids currently consists of Raphaelle Standell-Preston, Austin Tufts and Taylor Smith. Barnard Franklin "Barney" Bentall (born March 14, 1956) is a Canadian pop/rock singer-songwriter who is most well known for his 1990s-era band, Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts. Conrad Stafford Bain (February 4, 1923 – January 14, 2013) was a Canadian-American comedian and actor. His television credits include a leading role as Phillip Drummond in the sitcom ''Diff'rent Strokes'', as Dr. Arthur Harmon on '' Maude'', and as Charlie Ross in '' Mr. President'' (1987–1988). Ron Allbright
Ronald Philip Allbright (September 28, 1934 – July 9, 2016) was a player in the Canadian Football League for the Calgary Stampeders from 1956 to 1967. He primarily played at the offensive guard and offensive tackle positions, although he also played as a defensive end and linebacker. After playing junior football for the Calgary Bronks, Ron Allbright joined the Calgary Stampeders in 1956 and played his entire career with them until 1967. The Alberta Schools' Athletic Association (ASAA) is the governing body that oversees amateur athletics in schools for the province of Alberta. It is a voluntary, non profit organization that has 373 member high schools. It enforces policies as dictated by the provincial board of Governors.
