West Ridge High School
West Ridge High School is a public high school (grades 9–12) located in Blountville, Tennessee which operates under the administration of Sullivan County Schools. It was founded as a merger of Sullivan South High School, Sullivan North High School, and Sullivan Central High School in 2021. Dr. Josh Davis was announced as principal in July 2020 and has presided since the opening of the school in August 2021. History West Ridge High School officially opened in 2021, becoming the first new public high school to be opened in Sullivan County since the formation of the Sullivan North and Sullivan South high schools in 1980. The construction of the campus, which spans over 300,000 square feet and is known as the Ridge, cost about $75 million. Blountville, Tennessee
Blountville is a census-designated place (CDP) in and the county seat of Sullivan County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 3,074 at the 2010 census. It is the only Tennessee county seat not to be an incorporated city or town. Blountville is part of the Kingsport– Bristol (TN)– Bristol (VA) Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a component of the Johnson City–Kingsport–Bristol, TN- VA Combined Statistical Area – commonly known as the " Tri-Cities" region. WJHL-TV (channel 11) is a television station licensed to Johnson City, Tennessee, United States, serving the Tri-Cities area as an affiliate of CBS and ABC. The station is owned by Nexstar Media Group, and maintains studios on East Main Street in downtown Johnson City; its transmitter is located on Holston Mountain in the Cherokee National Forest. Sullivan South High School
Sullivan South High School was a public high school (grades 9–12) located in Kingsport, Tennessee, in Sullivan County with a student body of just under nine hundred students. The school was formed in 1980 and closed in 2021, when the building was converted to Sullivan Heights Middle School and its students were reapportioned to West Ridge High School. Greg Harvey served as principal of Sullivan South between 2003 to 2017, leading the school for 14 years all together. Josh Tate, formerly an assistant principal at Sullivan South High School, served as principal from 2017 until the school's closing. Sullivan North High School
Sullivan North High School was a public high school ( grades 9–12) located in Kingsport, Tennessee under the authority of Sullivan County Schools. Opened in 1980, the school had a student body of approximately 1500 students. However, due to declining enrollment partly from annexation by the city of Kingsport, enrollment was reduced to approximately 600 students at the time of amalgamation into West Ridge High School in 2021. Sullivan North's former facilities were used to form John Sevier Middle School until 2022. The facility became the Tribe Athletic Complex, which held middle school and youth league games and practices. The Dobyns-Bennett basketball team had their season in the former Sullivan North gym due to roof problems with the Buck Van Huss dome.
