The West Indies Rugby Union was established in 1975 and is the governing body of the twelve West Indies Unions (Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Jamaica, Martinique, St Lucia, St Vincent and Trinidad & Tobago). West Indies
The West Indies is a subregion of North America, surrounded by the North Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea that includes 13 independent island countries and 18 dependencies and other territories in three major archipelagos: the Greater Antilles, the Lesser Antilles, and the Lucayan Archipelago. Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. One of the two codes of rugby football, it is based on running with the ball in hand. 2001 Hong Kong Sevens
The 2001 Hong Kong Sevens was an international rugby sevens tournament that was held in Hong Kong as the fourth leg of the 2000–01 World Sevens Series. The tournament took place at the Hong Kong Stadium on 30 March–1 April 2001. The hosts, Hong Kong, finished third in Pool C but went on to defeat the West Indies 47–5 in the Bowl final. Defending World Sevens Series champions, New Zealand, successfully defended their Hong Kong Sevens title by defeating Fiji 29–5 in the Cup final. Format The teams were drawn into six pools of four teams each. Each team played the other teams in their pool once, with 3 points awarded for a win, 2 points for a draw, and 1 point for a loss (no points awarded for a forfeit). 2001 Cardiff Sevens
The 2001 Cardiff Sevens was an rugby sevens tournament that took place at the Rodney Parade with the finals being held at the Millennium Stadium. It took place between 2–3 June 2001 and was the first edition of the Cardiff Sevens and the final round of the 2000–01 World Sevens Series. Heading into the tournament, New Zealand held an eight point lead over Australia with a semi-final placing in the cup being enough to give New Zealand the title. After both teams qualified through to the cup knockout stage with them only conceding ten points between the two, they would meet in the cup final with New Zealand taking out not only the Cardiff Sevens but the World Series with a 31–5 win over Australia. In the minor placings, Fiji took out the plate final defeating Wales while England won the bowl over Portugal. Luther Burrell
Luther Burrell (born 6 December 1989) is a professional rugby union footballer who last played as a for the Newcastle Falcons in the Premiership Rugby. He played rugby union for Leeds Carnegie (2006–2011), Sale Sharks (2011–2012) and Northampton Saints (2012–2019), and won 15 caps for England between 2014 and 2016.
