Coterie (band)
Coterie is a four-member Australian-New Zealand band. Formed from four brothers who were born in New Zealand and grew up in Perth, Western Australia, the band received recognition for the 2021 single "Cool It Down", which was a hit in New Zealand. Biography The Fisher brothers' parents are musicians from New Zealand. While on tour, they decided to relocate the family from Papakura in Auckland to Perth, Western Australia. The family's roots are in Tauranga and Northland, and are of Te Aupōuri, Ngāpuhi and Ngāi Te Rangi descent. The brothers formed as a musical act in 2016, and prior to this had worked on a number of different music projects, including Tastemakers, an online series where the brothers collaborated with Western Australian artists. Background and composition The song was produced by the band at their home studio in their parents' living room in Perth, and features additional production by South African producer Robby De Sá. The song is an ode to their two homes, Tauranga in Aotearoa / New Zealand and West Coast Drive in Perth. The group composed the song together in writing sessions with an acoustic guitar, and was inspired by their inability to easily return home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the need to limit social interactions in the short-term, to be able to interact in the future. ''Coterie'' is the debut studio album by Australian/New Zealand band Coterie, released in December 2022. Recorded in Mangawhai together with New Zealand band Six60 and at the band's home studio in Perth, the album was inspired by summer. The album reached number 13 in Australia and number six in New Zealand. Production Coterie first met New Zealand band Six60 in 2021, after Coterie performed a cover of a Six60 song on Instagram. After Six60 reached out to the band, Coterie flew from Perth to Auckland days later for the groups' first recording sessions together.
