"Cool It Down" is a song by Australian-New Zealand band Coterie, released as their debut single through Massive Records in New Zealand in December 2021. The song reached the top 30 in New Zealand. Background and composition The song was produced by the band at their home studio in their parents' living room in Perth, and features additional production by South African producer Robby De Sá. The song is an ode to their two homes, Tauranga in Aotearoa / New Zealand and West Coast Drive in Perth. The group composed the song together in writing sessions with an acoustic guitar, and was inspired by their inability to easily return home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the need to limit social interactions in the short-term, to be able to interact in the future. Coterie is a four-member Australian-New Zealand band. Formed from four brothers who were born in New Zealand and grew up in Perth, Western Australia, the band received recognition for the 2021 single "Cool It Down", which was a hit in New Zealand. Biography The Fisher brothers' parents are musicians from New Zealand. While on tour, they decided to relocate the family from Papakura in Auckland to Perth, Western Australia. The family's roots are in Tauranga and Northland, and are of Te Aupōuri, Ngāpuhi and Ngāi Te Rangi descent. The brothers formed as a musical act in 2016, and prior to this had worked on a number of different music projects, including Tastemakers, an online series where the brothers collaborated with Western Australian artists. Tīmoti Kāretu
Sir Tīmoti Samuel Kāretu (born 29 April 1937) is a New Zealand academic of Māori language and performing arts. He served as the inaugural head of the Department of Māori at the University of Waikato, and rose to the rank of professor. He was the first Māori language commissioner, between 1987 and 1999, and then was executive director of Te Kohanga Reo National Trust from 1993 until 2003. In 2003, he was closely involved in the foundation of Te Panekiretanga o te Reo, the Institute of Excellence in Māori Language, and served as its executive director. West Coast Drive
West Coast Drive is a scenic north-south route along the Indian Ocean in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. History The road was initially a street which formed part of North Beach, which from the 1920s onwards was a coastal village which served as a holiday destination for Perth residents. During the Great Depression a tent city was located at the North Beach Road intersection. The road had to navigate around the original Hamersley family residence at Beachton Street, but this was demolished in 1961 under Town Planning Scheme No.14 which was drafted in 1959 by the Shire of Perth in order that the road could be straightened.
