West Asia Super League
The West Asia Super League (WASL) is an international basketball league organised by FIBA Asia, consisting of clubs from Western Asia and Gulf regions, in addition to the representatives of India and Kazakhstan. The league was announced in 2022 and started with the inaugural season from December. The league exists out of 18 teams, divided in two sub-zones. The champions and runners-up of each season qualify for the FIBA Asia Champions Cup. History On March 31, 2022 FIBA announced the creation of the West Asia Super League. The United Arab Emirates-based company eVulpa was appointed as partner for its commercial rights. The inaugural season has begun on 19 December 2022, and will end in May 2023, with a total of eighteen teams playing in the 2022–23 season. East Asia Super League
The East Asia Super League (Simplified Chinese:东亚超级联赛; Traditional Chinese: 東亞超級聯賽; Korean: 동아시아 슈퍼리그; Japanese: 東アジアスーパーリーグ), abbreviated as EASL, is a basketball league featuring clubs in Greater China, Japan, South Korea and the Philippines. From 2017 to 2019, four pre-season tournaments (The Super 8 and later The Terrific 12) were organized by EASL, featuring clubs from select professional basketball leagues in the region. Al-Naft Sports Club () is an Iraqi professional basketball club based in the Al-Rusafa district in Baghdad. Owned and operated by the Ministry of Oil, the team plays in the Iraqi Basketball League and has won seven national league championships. The team is part of the Al-Naft SC sports club that also fields a football team. Home games of Al-Naft are played in the Al-Shaab Hall. Édgar Sosa (basketball)
Édgar Sosa (born January 15, 1988) is a Dominican-American professional basketball player for Al-Naft SC of the Iraqi Basketball League. He played college basketball for Louisville. High school and college career Sosa attended Rice High School in New York City, where he received all-American honors. As a freshman at Louisville playing with Derrick Caracter, Earl Clark and Jerry Smith, the young group struggled early in the 2006–07 season. The team went on to win 8 out of its last 10 games, earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament. In the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Texas A&M, Sosa scored 31 points, shooting 15 for 17 from the line and 7 for 9 from the field. Beirut Club () is a basketball team based in Beirut, Lebanon, who plays in the Lebanese Basketball League (LBL), the top-flight of basketball in Lebanon. Home games of the club are played in the Stade Nouhad Naufal. The club was first promoted to the Lebanese Basketball League in 2017, and has played there ever since. Manama Club, also known as Al Manama, is a Bahraini professional basketball team based in Manama. They play in the Bahraini Premier League and are the most decorated team in national basketball history, having won a record 24 championships, 18 Cup titles, and 5 Super Cup titles. Currently, Manama also plays in the West Asia Super League (WASL), which they won in 2023. Manama plays in the BBA Arena, which is also known as the Zain Basketball Arena.
