WestWind Energy
WestWind Energy is an Australian company involved in development and operation of wind farms. Its origins were in Germany in the renewable energy sector. It is part of the WestWind Group of companies which has its headquarters in Kirchdorf, Lower Saxony, Germany. WestWind Energy has been involved in several projects in the state of Victoria. It did the early development planning for the Mount Mercer Wind Farm, approx. 30km south of Ballarat before selling the project to Meridian Energy prior construction. It also did the development and planning for the Lal Lal Wind Farm, a two-site wind farm situated near Yendon (approx. 17km east of Ballarat) and Elaine (approx. 25km south-east of Ballarat) before selling the project to Macquarie Capital. It also did the planning and development for Moorabool Wind Farm before selling that project to Goldwind Australia for development. Gisborne () is a town in the Macedon Ranges, located about north-west of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Yendon, Victoria
Yendon is a small town in Victoria, Australia. The town is located in the Shire of Moorabool, west of the state capital, Melbourne and approximately south east of Ballarat. The town was originally called Buninyong East, but was changed in 1879 to Yendon, believed to be an Indigenous Australian word meaning "waterhole". At the , Yendon had a population of 307. History The Geelong-Ballarat railway line passed through Yendon, and for a while in the early 1860s it was the terminus of the line. Warracknabeal, Victoria
Warracknabeal ( ) is a wheatbelt town in the Australian state of Victoria. Situated on the banks of the Yarriambiack Creek, 330 km north-west of Melbourne, it is the business and services centre of the northern Wimmera and southern Mallee districts, and hosts local government offices of the Shire of Yarriambiack. At the Warracknabeal district had a population of 2,745, of which 2,340 lived in the town. Moorabool Wind Farm
Moorabool Wind Farm is an operational wind farm located 25km south east of Ballarat in Victoria, Australia. The wind farm is in two parts. The northern part has 50 turbines and the southern part has 54 turbines. By December 2021, all 104 turbines had been put into place. The turbines each measure 169m to the tip of the blade. Development and purpose The farm is being developed by Goldwind Australia. When operational, it will be one of three wind farms in Moorabool Shire. The others are Yaloak South Wind Farm and Lal Lal Wind Farm. When fully operational, the farm will produce up to 312MW of electricity, enough energy to power approximately 228,000 Victorian homes. Elaine, Victoria
Elaine is a town in Victoria, Australia, located on the Midland Highway between Ballarat and Geelong. At the , Elaine and the surrounding area had a population of 228. The railway came through the town in 1862, with the opening of the Geelong-Ballarat line, but Elaine railway station was only opened ten years later, and was not provided with the grand bluestone buildings provided at the original stations on the line. Today, only freight trains use the line. The Post Office opened on 1 March 1859 as Mount Doran, and was renamed Elaine in 1872. Lal Lal Wind Farm
Lal Lal Wind Farm is a wind farm under construction southeast of Ballarat in Victoria, Australia. The wind farm has two sections about apart. There are 38 turbines two kilometres east of Yendon and a further 22 turbines two kilometres north of Elaine. The project was developed by WestWind Energy. The proposal was bought by Macquarie Capital in 2017, and financing was completed by onselling 40% to each of Northleaf Capital Partners and InfraRed Capital with Macquarie retaining the other 20%.
