Wertingen
Wertingen () is a town in the district of Dillingen in Bavaria, Germany. It is located along the river Zusam in 13 km east of Dillingen, and 28 km northwest of Augsburg. The city is the seat of the municipal association Wertingen. Battle Of Wertingen
In the Battle of Wertingen (8 October 1805) Imperial French forces led by Marshals Joachim Murat and Jean Lannes attacked a small Austrian corps commanded by Feldmarschall-Leutnant Franz Xaver von Auffenberg. This action, the first battle of the Ulm Campaign, resulted in a clear French victory. Wertingen lies northwest of Augsburg. The combat was fought during the War of the Third Coalition, part of the Napoleonic Wars. Background Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte had launched his 200,000-man Grand Army across the Rhine. This huge mass of maneuver wheeled to the south and crossed the Danube River to the east of (i.e., behind) General Karl Freiherr Mack von Leiberich's concentration at Ulm. Unaware of the force bearing down on him, Mack stayed in place as Napoleon's corps spread south across the Danube, slicing across his lines of communication with Vienna. Gymnasium Wertingen
The Gymnasium Wertingen is located in the Bavarian municipality of Wertingen. The High-School is attended by around 950 pupils. It is the biggest high school in the county of Dillingen. History The High-School established at 26.11.1965. This was by the county council, which decided to build a new school. In October the same year the school began to teach children. At first there were 78 pupils and 13 teachers. The first headteacher was Ernst Rehle. In 1979 the School Association was founded, 12 years later it got founded again. The school offered student exchanges with a school in Fère-en-Tardenois in France, with the Texas City High School and the Highland Park High School in Dallas, USA. In 1997 the "AG Tanz und Gymnastik" won the Bavarian championship. In 2003 the school celebrated its 1500th high-school graduate. One year later the G8 was launched. Dillingen is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in Swabia, Bavaria, Germany. It is bounded by (from the north and clockwise) the districts of Donau-Ries, Augsburg and Günzburg, and by the state of Baden-Württemberg (district of Heidenheim). History In ancient times the Danube river was a border between the Roman empire and the Germanic tribes north of the river. The Roman camp of Phoebiana (now Faimingen) was a bridgehead crossing the danube. There was an Apollo temple being one of the largest buildings north of the Alps in that time. Dillingen or Dillingen an der Donau (Dillingen at the Danube) is a town in Swabia, Bavaria, Germany. It is the administrative center of the district of Dillingen. Besides the town of Dillingen proper, the municipality encompasses the villages of Donaualtheim, Fristingen, Hausen, Kicklingen, Schretzheim and Steinheim.
