Werner Knoop House
The Werner Knoop House is a historic house at 6 Ozark Point in Little Rock, Arkansas. Built in 1936–37, it is a rare example of Art Moderne residential architecture in the city. It is a two-story L-shaped structure, its exterior finished in brick with flush mortar joints and painted white, with asymmetrically arranged steel-frame windows in a variety of sizes and shapes. Its entrance is recessed in a rectangular opening framed by stone, immediately to the right of the projecting two-car garage. The house was built for Werner Knoop, owner of a local construction company, to a design by the local firm Brueggeman, Swaim & Allen. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. Arkansas
Arkansas ( ) is a landlocked state in the South Central United States. Art Moderne
Streamline Moderne is an international style of Art Deco architecture and design that emerged in the 1930s. Inspired by aerodynamic design, it emphasized curving forms, long horizontal lines, and sometimes nautical elements. In industrial design, it was used in railroad locomotives, telephones, toasters, buses, appliances, and other devices to give the impression of sleekness and modernity. In France, it was called the ''style paquebot'', or "ocean liner style", and was influenced by the design of the luxury ocean liner SS ''Normandie'', launched in 1932. Hillcrest Historic District
Hillcrest Historic District is an historic neighborhood in Little Rock, Arkansas that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 18, 1990. It is often referred to as Hillcrest by the people who live there, although the district's boundaries actually encompass several neighborhood additions that were once part of the incorporated town of Pulaski Heights. The town of Pulaski Heights was annexed to the city of Little Rock in 1916. The Hillcrest Residents Association uses the tagline "Heart of Little Rock" because the area is located almost directly in the center of the city and was the first street car suburb in Little Rock and among the first of neighborhoods in Arkansas.
