Werner Friese (30 March 1946 – 28 September 2016) was a German Association football, football player. He was part of the East Germany national football team, East German team for its only World Cup appearance in 1974 FIFA World Cup, West Germany 1974, as a backup Goalkeeper (association football), goalkeeper. However, he did not earn any caps for East Germany. He also played for 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig. Overview Following World War II, separate sports competitions emerged in the occupied eastern and western halves of Germany, replacing the ''Gauligas'' of the Nazi era.
