() is a quarter in the borough of in Berlin, Germany, that takes its name from the small lake (literally 'White Lake') within it. Before Berlin's 2001 administrative reform, was a borough in its own right, consisting of the quarters of , , , and . Weißensee (German for "white lake") is a town in the district of Sömmerda, in Thuringia, Germany. It is situated 6 km northwest of Sömmerda, and 25 km north of Erfurt. The former municipality Herrnschwende was merged into Weißensee in January 2019. History Weissensee is one of a very few towns which was actually planned in the Middle Ages. Founded in the second half of the 12th century by Jutta Claricia, Landgravine of Thuringia and sister of Emperor Frederick I, it gained market rights in 1198 and city rights in 1265. Due to its excellent strategic position between two lakes – from which the town takes its name – and a ridge of hills, Weissensee rapidly became a very important trade centre, especially for fish and woad. Weissensee (german: link=no, Weißensee) is a municipality in the district of Spittal an der Drau District, Spittal an der Drau in Carinthia (state), Carinthia, Austria. Geography The lakeside resort town, resort is situated on the shore of the Weissensee (Carinthia), Weissensee within the Gailtal Alps mountain range. It can be reached via the Weissensee Road (B 87) leading from Greifenburg in the Drava Valley across the Kreuzberg Saddle to Gitschtal and Hermagor-Pressegger See, Hermagor in the Gail (river), Gail Valley. The Weissensee (German spelling: ''Weißensee'') is a lake in the Austrian state of Carinthia within the Gailtal Alps mountain range. The highest situated Carinthian bathing lake shares its name with the municipality of Weissensee on the northern and southern shore. Geography The western shore of the glacial lake is located near the Kreuzberg Saddle mountain pass of the Bundesstraße road from Greifenburg to Hermagor. A smaller mountain road runs from the Drava valley via Stockenboi to the eastern end. Despite its elevation of 930 mAA (3051 ft), the lake surface can reach 24 degrees Celsius in the summer months, while in winter the water freezes over completely and allows skaters to move freely on the ice. Due to its steep shore, the eastern part is almost uninhabited, with only a narrow path leading to the eastern end, where the area of the Stockenboi municipality reaches the lake. Friedrich Weissensee
Friedrich Weißensee (c. 1560 in Schwerstedt, Thüringen – 1622, Altenweddingen bei Magdeburg) was a German composer and Protestant minister. Alongside his contemporaries Christoph Demantius, Michael Praetorius and Melchior Vulpius, he was one of the leading Protestant composers of his time. Life In 1590 he was made rector of a Latin school in Gebesee near Erfurt. In 1596 he succeeded Leonhart Schröter as cantor at the Altstädtische Schule in Magdeburg on Schröter's retirement – one of Weißensee's pupils was Daniel Friderici. Neu! (; German for "New!"; styled in block capitals) were a West German krautrock band formed in Düsseldorf in 1971 by Klaus Dinger and Michael Rother following their departure from Kraftwerk. The group's albums were produced by Conny Plank, who has been regarded as the group's "hidden member". They released three albums in their initial incarnation—''Neu!'' (1972), ''Neu! 2'' (1973), and ''Neu! 75'' (1975)—before disbanding in 1975. They briefly reunited in the mid-1980s. Though Neu! had minimal commercial success during their existence, the band are retrospectively considered a central act of West Germany's 1970s krautrock movement. They are known for pioneering the "motorik" beat, a minimalist 4/4 rhythm associated with krautrock artists. Their work has exerted a widespread influence on genres such as electronica and punk. ''Neu!'' is the debut album by German krautrock band Neu!. It was released in 1972 by Brain Records. It was the first album recorded by the duo of Michael Rother and Klaus Dinger after leaving Kraftwerk in 1971. They continued to work with producer Konrad "Conny" Plank, who had also worked on the Kraftwerk recording sessions. Upon release, the album was largely ignored internationally but did well in West Germany, selling 35,000 copies. In 2001, the album was reissued by Grönland and then licensed to Astralwerks for US distribution. In 2014, '' Fact'' named it the 36th best album of the 1970s. History Having broken off from an early incarnation of Kraftwerk, Michael Rother and Klaus Dinger quickly began the recording sessions for what would become '' Neu!''. Elder (band)
Elder is an American four-piece rock band from Massachusetts, consisting of frontman Nick DiSalvo, bassist Jack Donovan, guitarist/keyboardist Michael Risberg and drummer Georg Edert. They have released six full-length albums since 2006 and multiple demos and EPs. History Elder was formed in Massachusetts in the mid-2000s by Nick DiSalvo (guitars, vocals), Chas Mitchell (bass), and Matt Couto (drums). After releasing a split album with the psychedelic rock band Queen Elephantine in 2006, Elder released their eponymous debut LP in 2009 and ''Dead Roots Stirring'' in 2011, both on MeteorCity Records. ''Weissensee'' is a German television series. The series is set in East Berlin between 1980 and 1990 and follows two families. Outline The plot follows the Kupfer family, who are well-connected within the communist regime. Hans Kupfer and his son Falk are both senior officers within the East German secret police, whilst his younger son Martin is a regular policeman in the Volkspolizei. Martin opted for this job due to concerns with the morals of the regime. After a brief car chase one evening, Martin arrests Julia Hausmann, a young shop worker. After her release, they quickly strike up a relationship. However, the situation is complicated by the fact that Julia's mother is a singer known for frequently criticising the regime, and the Kupfers' resultant hostility. Falk works to try divide the couple, whilst Hans secretly approaches Julia's mother, with whom it transpires that he once had an affair.
