Weightlifting At The 2008 Summer Olympics
Weightlifting competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China were held from August 9 to August 19. Competitions were conducted at the Beihang University Gymnasium. The medal records at the 2008 Games were heavily amended following re-analysis of competitors samples in 2015, 2016 and 2017. 26 lifters were disqualified as a result of these tests, including 16 medalists and four lifters who stood to inherit forfeited medals. Li Hongli (; born 26 December 1980 in Ningyuan, Yongzhou, Hunan, China) is a Chinese weightlifter. He is 168 cm tall. Viktors Ščerbatihs (born 6 October 1974 in Dobele) is a former Latvian weightlifter and politician and a three-time Olympian for his native country. He is 181 cm tall. In the 2004 Summer Olympics, he won the silver medal in the over 105 kg weight category, with the total result of 455 kg (205 kg in snatch and 250 kg in clean and jerk). Matthias Steiner
Matthias Steiner (; born 25 August 1982 in Vienna) is a retired Austrian-German weightlifter, and Olympic gold medalist. As a native Austrian, he competed for Austria internationally from 1998 to 2005, in European Championships, World Championships, and the 2004 Summer Olympics. From 2002 to 2005 he was four times Austrian National Champion in the +105 kg category, and holds Austrian records in the −105 kg and +105 kg categories. In 2005, Steiner left the Austrian weightlifting federation, and married a German woman. Arsen Kasabiev ( ka, არსენ კასაბიევი; russian: Арсен Касабиев) born 15 November 1987 in Tskhinvali, South Ossetia) is a Polish-Georgian weightlifter of Ossetian origin. Szymon Piotr Kołecki (; born 12 October 1981) is a Polish former Olympic Champion weightlifter and current mixed martial artist.
