"Weekend" is a song written by English singer-songwriter Mick Jackson and Tommy Mayer, and released in 1978 on Jackson's ''Weekend'' album. It was then covered in 1979 by the American group Wet Willie where it peaked at number 29 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 during the summer of the year. Jackson's version charted in the United Kingdom, reaching #38. "Weekend" was the first release from their album, ''Which One's Willie?'' Wet Willie
Wet Willie is an American band from Mobile, Alabama. Their best-known song, " Keep On Smilin'", reached No. 10 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart in August 1974. Several other of the group's songs also appeared on the singles charts in the 1970s, which utilized their soulful brand of Southern rock. History Drummer Lewis Ross assembled the musicians for a group called "Fox" in the summer of 1969, and after relocating from Mobile, Alabama to Macon, Georgia, home of Capricorn Records, became known as "Wet Willie" in 1970. The band made its name playing Southern rock from 1971 until 1979, producing a number of albums and several charting singles, one of them achieving Top Ten success. Mick Jackson (singer)
Michael George Jackson (born 2 November 1947) is an English singer-songwriter and the co-writer of the song, "Blame It on the Boogie". The song was co-authored by Mick's brother David Jackson and Elmar Krohn, and produced by Sylvester Levay. Jackson recorded his version first and The Jacksons' management team picked up the song at Midem, the music industry trade fair in Cannes, where it was offered to them by Mick Jackson's publisher without Jackson's knowledge. Due to a delay at the pressing plant which was producing Mick Jackson's single, in the UK the two versions were released within weeks of each other. The press at the time enjoyed the similarity in the names and release coincidence, calling the situation 'The Battle of the Boogie' as the two records jockeyed for chart positions. Jimmy Hall
Jimmy Hall (born April 26, 1949) is the American lead singer and harmonica player for the Southern rock group, Wet Willie. Hall was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and reared in Mobile, Alabama. He first gained notoriety in 1970 as the lead vocalist, saxophonist and harmonica player for Wet Willie. The band’s R&B-infused rock and roll style propelled its biggest hit, “ Keep On Smilin’,” into the Top 10 on the Billboard singles chart in 1974. Wet Willie released five albums with Capricorn Records before moving to the Epic label in 1977, where its singles “ Street Corner Serenade” and “ Weekend” charted in the Top 40. In 1980, Hall scored a solo hit with the single "I'm Happy that Love Has Found You" (US No. 27, AC #30). In May 1982, Hall peaked at No. 77 with the song "Fool for Your Love." KYBG (102.1 FM) is a classic hits formatted radio station owned by Third Partner Broadcasting and serving the Lafayette and Lake Charles areas. Its studios are in Crowley and its transmitter is located northwest of Kaplan in Acadia Parish. History 102.1 signed on in 1989 as Acadia Parish-focused KBAZ with a country format. In 1994, 102.1 changed calls to KSIG-FM and became a simulcast of Adult Standards sister station 1450/ KSIG, which lasted until April 10, 1997 when the signal was upgraded to 50 kW and entered the Lafayette market. Upon the upgrade, the station took on the KQIS call letters and switched to adult contemporary as "Kiss 102." Since the initial upgrade into the Lafayette market, KQIS has shifted its format several times. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015.
