Wee Thump Joshua Tree Wilderness
The Wee Thump Joshua Tree Wilderness is a designated (2002) wilderness area in Nevada. It comprises and has an expanse of old-growth Joshua trees. "Wee Thump" means "ancient ones" in the language of the Paiute people. This Bureau of Land Management wilderness is a few miles west of Searchlight, Nevada. Searchlight is an Unincorporated towns in Nevada, unincorporated town and census-designated place (CDP) in Clark County, Nevada, United States, at the topographic saddle between two mountain ranges. ''Yucca brevifolia'' is a plant species belonging to the genus ''Yucca''. It is tree-like in habit, which is reflected in its common names: Joshua tree, yucca palm, tree yucca, and palm tree yucca. Southern Paiute
The Southern Paiute people are a tribe of Native Americans who have lived in the Colorado River basin of southern Nevada, northern Arizona, and southern Utah. Bands of Southern Paiute live in scattered locations throughout this territory and have been granted federal recognition on several reservations. The first European contact with the Southern Paiute occurred in 1776, when fathers Silvestre Vélez de Escalante and Francisco Atanasio Domínguez encountered them during an attempt to find an overland route to the missions of California. Avi Kwa Ame National Monument ( ; Mojave: ''ʔaviː kʷaʔame'', "highest mountain", from ''ʔaviː'', "mountain, rock", and ''ʔamay'', "up, above") is a national monument that protects approximately of the Mojave Desert in southern Nevada.
