Wayne Reid
Wayne Vivian Reid OBE (12 January 1938 – 30 June 2021) was a tennis player and sports administrator who was president of the Lawn Tennis Association of Australia (LTAA), the Melbourne Football Club, the Asian Tennis Circuit, the Confederation of Australian Sport, the International Assembly of National Confederations of Sports and was a founding director of the Australian Institute of Sport. Christian Kuhnke
Christian Kuhnke (born 14 April 1939) is a former German tennis player. He was part of the West Germany Davis Cup team who reached the Challenge Round in the 1970 Davis Cup. Allen Aylett
Allen James Aylett OBE (24 April 1934 – 16 September 2022) was an Australian rules football player and administrator. He was the chairman/president of the North Melbourne Football Club from 1971 to 1976, and then again from 2001 to 2005. In between, he had been the chairman of the then Victorian Football League (VFL) from 1977 to 1984. Aylett worked as a dentist throughout his career and into his eighties. Early life Aylett was born in Melbourne on 24 April 1934. He attended University High School in his hometown. He made his debut for North Melbourne at the age of 17 while he was still in secondary school, a rare feat at the time. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. The VFL, aiming to become a national competition, began expanding beyond Victoria to other Australian states in the 1980s, and changed its name to the AFL in 1990. Billy Snedden
Sir Billy Mackie Snedden, (31 December 1926 – 27 June 1987) was an Australian politician who served as the leader of the Liberal Party from 1972 to 1975. He was also a cabinet minister from 1964 to 1972, and Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1976 to 1983. Snedden was born in Perth, Western Australia. He served in the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II, and then studied law at the University of Western Australia. From 1951 to 1952, he was the inaugural federal chairman of the Young Liberal Movement. After a period working overseas for the Department of Immigration, Snedden returned to Australia in 1954 and settled in Melbourne. He was elected to the House of Representatives the following year, aged 28. In 1964, Snedden was elevated to cabinet by Robert Menzies. Carl Ditterich
Carl Robert Ditterich (born 10 October 1945) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the St Kilda Football Club and Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He also coached Melbourne for two years, as a playing coach. Ditterich, known as the "Blonde Bombshell", made an impressive debut as a 17-year-old for St Kilda against Melbourne in the opening round of the 1963 VFL season, with his speed, high leaping and endurance noted. He became a tough ruckman and often appeared at the VFL Tribunal, in particular missing St Kilda's only premiership victory in 1966 through suspension. Dennis Jones (Australian Footballer)
Dennis Jones (13 November 1936 – 19 December 1999) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne Football Club, Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (1897–1989), Victorian Football League (VFL). He then moved to South Australia where he coached Central Districts to the finals for the first time. Jones, a half-back, made his senior VFL debut in 1956 VFL season, 1956 and was a member of Melbourne's 1959 VFL Grand Final, 1959 premiership side. He retired from the VFL aged 25, and in 1968 became the senior coach of the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club Central District Football Club, Central District. John Robert Mitchell is a former president of the Melbourne Football Club and the Melbourne Cricket Club. Melbourne Football Club Mitchell became president of the Melbourne Football Club at the end of 1974, replacing the retiring Donald Duffy. He served for four years, during which time Melbourne's best result was to finish sixth. The racket sport traditionally named lawn tennis, invented in Birmingham, England now commonly known simply as tennis, is the direct descendant of what is now denoted real tennis or royal tennis, which continues to be played today as a separate sport with more complex rules. Sven Viktor Davidson (13 July 1928 – 28 May 2008) was a Swedish tennis player who became the first Swede to win a Grand Slam title when he won the French Championships in 1957, beating Ashley Cooper and Herbert Flam. Career Davidson also reached the French championships final in the two previous years. In 1955 he beat Budge Patty before losing to Tony Trabert. In 1956 he beat Flam and Cooper before losing to Lew Hoad. He also reached the Wimbledon semi finals in 1957 (beating Seixas before losing to Lew Hoad). At the 1957 U. S. Championships, Davidson lost in five sets in the semifinals to Mal Anderson. Martin Mulligan
Martin "Marty" Mulligan (born 18 October 1940) is a former tennis player from Australia. He is best known for reaching the men's singles final at Wimbledon in 1962, where he was defeated by fellow Australian Rod Laver. Personal life Mulligan was born in the Sydney suburb of Marrickville.
