Waxploitation Records
Waxploitation is an American record label, artist management company and music publisher, which was founded in 1996 by Jeff Antebi. The company is best known for developing the careers of artists including Gnarls Barkley, Broken Bells, and Danger Mouse as well as projects like Danger Doom with MF DOOM, '' Rome'' with Jack White and Norah Jones, and '' Dark Night of the Soul'' with David Lynch and Sparklehorse. Waxploitation managed Danger Mouse's producing career from 2004 to 2010, an era during which he produced albums by The Black Keys, Beck, and Gorillaz, as well as the infamous Grey Album. In addition to creative ventures, Waxploitation has a longstanding commitment to philanthropy including their ongoing ''Causes'' album series has included songs from The Shins, LCD Soundsystem, Diplo, Death Cab for Cutie, Bloc Party, Devendra Banhart, The Decemberists, Sharon Jones & Dap Kings among many more. Jeff Antebi
Jeff Antebi (born 1970) is an American entrepreneur in the arts, best known as the founder of Waxploitation Records and for his photographic works from war and conflict zones. Waxploitation Records Jeff Antebi is the founder of Waxploitation Records, a company where he developed the careers of Grammy Award winning artists including Gnarls Barkley, Danger Mouse and the Grammy nominated artist Broken Bells as well as projects like Dangerdoom with Adult Swim, Dark Night of the Soul (album) with David Lynch, The Grey Album and ''ROME'' with Danger Mouse, Jack White and Norah Jones. Sparklehorse
Sparklehorse was an American indie rock band from Richmond, Virginia, led by singer and multi-instrumentalist Mark Linkous. Sparklehorse was active from 1995 until Linkous' 2010 death. Prior to forming Sparklehorse, Linkous fronted local bands Johnson Family and Salt Chunk Mary. Only one song, "Someday I Will Treat You Good," survived from these earlier bands to be played by Sparklehorse. Linkous stated that he ultimately chose Sparklehorse for a name because the two words sounded good together and it could loosely be used as a metaphor for a motorcycle. Sharon Lafaye Jones (May 4, 1956 – November 18, 2016) was an American soul and funk singer. She was the lead singer of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, a soul and funk band based in Brooklyn, New York. Jones experienced breakthrough success relatively late in life, releasing her first record when she was 40 years old. In 2014, Jones was nominated for her first Grammy, in the category Best R&B Album, for '' Give the People What They Want.'' The Decemberists are an American indie rock band from Portland, Oregon. Bloc Party
Bloc Party are an English Rock music, rock band, composed of Kele Okereke (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards, sampler), Russell Lissack (lead guitar, keyboards), Justin Harris (bass guitar, keyboards, saxophones, backing vocals) and Louise Bartle (drums, percussion). Death Cab for Cutie is an American rock band formed in Bellingham, Washington, in 1997. Thomas Wesley Pentz (born November 10, 1978), known professionally as Diplo, is an American DJ and music producer. He is the co-creator and lead member of the electronic dancehall music project Major Lazer, a member of the supergroup LSD with Sia and Labrinth, a member of electronic duo Jack Ü with producer and DJ Skrillex, and a member of Silk City with Mark Ronson. The Shins
The Shins is an American indie rock band formed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1996. Grey Album
''The Grey Album'' is a mashup album by Danger Mouse, released in 2004. It mixes an a cappella version of rapper Jay-Z's '' The Black Album'' with samples from the Beatles' self-titled ninth album, commonly known as "The White Album". ''The Grey Album'' gained notoriety when EMI attempted to halt its distribution despite approval of the project from Jay-Z and the two surviving Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. History Danger Mouse created ''The Grey Album'' as an experimental project intended for a limited 3,000-copy release in February 2004. While Danger Mouse never asked permission to use the Beatles' material, Jay-Z's a cappella recordings, though copyrighted, were released commercially for the purpose of encouraging mashups and remixes.
