LCD Soundsystem is an American Dance-punk#Contemporary dance-punk, dance-punk revival band from Brooklyn, Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2002 by James Murphy (electronic musician), James Murphy, of DFA Records. The band comprises Murphy (vocals, various instruments), Nancy Whang (synthesizer, keyboards, vocals), Pat Mahoney (drums), Tyler Pope (bass, guitar, synthesizer), Al Doyle (guitar, synthesizer, percussion), Matt Thornley (guitar, synthesizer, percussion), and Korey Richey (synthesizer, piano, percussion). They have been signed to DFA since their inception, and also signed to Columbia Records in 2016. The band began by recording and releasing multiple singles from 2002 to 2004, the first of which was "Losing My Edge", one of their signature songs. This led up to the release of their 2005 LCD Soundsystem (album), self-titled debut studio album. DFA Records is an American independent record label based in New York City. The label was originally founded in 2001 by Tim Goldsworthy, musician James Murphy (electronic musician), James Murphy, and manager Jonathan Galkin. Goldsworthy and Murphy were formerly a production team called The DFA until Goldsworthy's relocation to the UK. History James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy met while working in New York on the David Holmes (musician), David Holmes album ''Let's Get Killed''. After the recording was completed, Goldsworthy stayed in New York, and the two began to throw parties on the Lower East Side. "Christmas Will Break Your Heart" is a song by American rock band LCD Soundsystem. It was released as a download single as well as a limited one-sided 7-inch vinyl on December 24, 2015, making it the band's first single in five years. Background and recording Prior to the song's release, in October 2015, there were rumors regarding a possible LCD Soundsystem reunion. It was stated in a Consequence of Sound article that "multiple sources" confirmed that the band would be reuniting in 2016 and that they would be headlining high-profile music festivals. ''Shut Up and Play the Hits'' is a 2012 British documentary film directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace that follows LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy over a 48-hour period, from the day of the band's final gig at Madison Square Garden to the morning after the show. It was released first on May 17, 2010, jointly through DFA and Virgin Records in the United States and Parlophone elsewhere.
