List Of Counties Of New Brunswick
The Canadian province of New Brunswick has 15 counties. While they no longer serve as a local government territorial division as traditionally defined with shire towns or county towns, they continue to define a regional community. With the reorganization of local government legislation contained in the Robichaud government's reforms, collectively called the New Brunswick Equal Opportunity program, county municipalities ceased to function in 1966 and their councils were dissolved. Another form of regional local government did not replace the county. Instead, many small village municipalities were created, with the surrounding predominantly rural areas remaining unincorporated. Queens County (french: Comté de Queens; 2016 population 10,472) is located in central New Brunswick, Canada. The county shire town is the village of Gagetown. Geography The county's geography is dominated by the Saint John River and Grand Lake. Coal mining is a major industry in the Minto area. Forestry and mixed farming dominate the rest of the county. The CFB Gagetown military training area takes in a large portion of the western part of the county. Waterborough Parish, New Brunswick
Waterborough is a civil parish in Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada. For governance purposes it forms the local service district of the parish of Waterborough, which is a member of Regional Service Commission 11 (RSC11). Origin of name The parish was said locally to describe the terrain. The original boundaries surrounded Grand Lake. History Waterborough was erected in 1786 as one of the county's original parishes. It completely surrounded Grand Lake and extended past the county line. In 1827 Canning Parish was erected from Waterborough. In 1852 part of Waterborough was included in the newly erected Cambridge Parish. In 1855 Waterborough was expanded to the northwest, adding all of Chipman Parish southeast of Coal Creek.
