Washington Union School District
The Washington Union School District is a school district outside Salinas, California. It was established in 1869. Its middle school, San Benancio Middle School, is one of the few public schools in California to receive a GreatSchools Rating of 9 out of 10. The district consists of three schools; K–3 Toro Park Elementary School, 4–5 Washington Union Elementary School, and 6–9 San Benancio Middle School. Washington Union School has an extensive nature trail running through the hills behind the school. Trail maintenance and improvements are mostly performed by the students. Toro Park School (named for the residential development it serves, adjacent to the former Fort Ord Military Base) was built in the late 1970s and was originally for children with disabilities. San Benancio, Monterey County, California
San Benancio is an unincorporated community in Monterey County, California. It is located in the San Benancio Canyon. History and etymology The region was named for San Benancio Gulch which is the small canyon that forms the majority of the region. A map dated 1834 lists the region as "Canada de San Benancio". The Spanish name most likely refers to one of four saints venerated with the name Venantius. Fort Ord
Fort Ord is a former United States Army post on Monterey Bay of the Pacific Ocean coast in California, which closed in 1994 due to Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) action. Most of the fort's land now makes up the Fort Ord National Monument, managed by the United States Bureau of Land Management as part of the National Conservation Lands, while a small portion remains an active military installation under Army control designated as the Ord Military Community.
