Warriors (Gary Numan Song)
"Warriors" is a song written and recorded by English musician Gary Numan, released in 1983 as both a seven- and 12-single from his fifth solo Album#Studio, studio album, ''Warriors (Gary Numan album), Warriors''. Numan promoted the song on many popular television shows such as ''The Saturday Show (1982 TV series), The Saturday Show'' and ''Crackerjack! (TV programme), Crackerjack''. It peaked at No. 20 on the UK Singles Chart, and was Numan's final Top 20 hit until 2003. Of the song Numan commented: "Warriors was about how I felt being a pop star more or less, I felt I was losing it and slipping down the ladder of success. The line “The ghost of the white faced clown” was a direct reference back to the old images that I'd had before and I wanted to establish that was all done and gone, I was over my ''Star Wars'', Buck Rogers type period". Gary Anthony James Webb (born 8 March 1958), known professionally as Gary Numan, is an English musician. He entered the music industry as frontman of the new wave band Tubeway Army. After releasing two albums with the band, he released his debut solo album '' The Pleasure Principle'' in 1979, topping the UK Albums Chart. While his commercial popularity peaked in the late 1970s and early 1980s with hits including "Are 'Friends' Electric?" and "Cars" (both of which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart), Numan maintains a cult following. ''Top of the Pops'' (''TOTP'') is a British Record chart, music chart television programme, made by the BBC and originally broadcast weekly between 1January 1964 and 30 July 2006. ''Warriors'' is the fifth solo studio album by English new wave musician Gary Numan, released on 16 September 1983 by Beggars Banquet Records, it would be his last studio release on that label. Preproduction Gary Numan returned to England in May 1983 to record the album. He had written most of the album's material in late 1982-early 1983, while he was living in Jersey, Channel Islands (after spending a few months in Los Angeles, California as a tax exile). While Numan was working on the early ''Warriors'' material, Beggars Banquet suggested that, for the first time during his career, he should use a co-producer instead of producing the album entirely by himself (this was initially suggested by the label for Numan's previous studio album ''I, Assassin'' (1982), a suggestion Numan refused at the time). ''Crackerjack'' is a British children's television series that initially aired on the BBC Television Service between 14 September 1955 and 21 December 1984 (with no series in 1971).
