Warren Point, Pennsylvania
Warren Point is a former town in the southwest corner of Warren Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. It was located on the north side of Licking Creek, and at the southwest end of Keefer Mountain, and approximately two miles west of Yeakle Mill. It is present on old topographic maps (for example, Hancock Quadrangle of 1899), but is no longer labeled on later maps (for example, Cherry Run of 1951Cherry Run Quadrangle, West Virginia-Maryland-Pennsylvania, 7.5 Minute Series (Topographic), 1951. Warren Township is a township that is located in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 328 at the time of the 2020 census. History Warren Township's designation was derived from the name of Joseph Warren, an American soldier and doctor. Yeakle's Mill Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. Geography The township occupies the southwestern corner of Franklin County, bordered to the west by Fulton County and to the south by Washington County in the state of Maryland. The western boundary of the township follows the crest of Tuscarora Mountain as far as its southern end, and the eastern boundary follows the crest of Cove Mountain. The southern boundary is the Mason–Dixon line. The settled part of the township occupies the space between the two mountains, known as Little Cove Valley, drained to the south by Little Cove Creek, a tributary of Licking Creek, which flows south across Maryland to the Potomac River. The Devonian Old Port Formation is a mapped bedrock unit in Pennsylvania, USA. Details of the type section and of stratigraphic nomenclature for this unit as used by the U.S. Geological Survey are available on-line at the National Geologic Map Database. Current nomenclature usage by U.S. Geological Survey restricts the name Old Port Formation to Pennsylvania, but correlative units are present in adjacent states. Description The Old Port Formation consists of limestone, sandstone, shale, and chert. Stratigraphic Setting The Old Port Formation is divided into several members with varying lithologies, which are (in ascending stratigraphic order): New Creek Member (limestone), Corriganville Member (limestone), Mandata Member (shale), Shriver Member (cherty limestone), and Ridgeley Member (sandstone).
