Warren Brown (cartoonist)
Warren Lindsay Brown (born 1965) is an Australian author, cartoonist and television presenter. Career He has been an editorial newspaper cartoonist since 1986. He is currently cartoonist for the Sydney's ''Daily Telegraph'', for which he also wrote a weekly motoring column and regularly contributes opinion and historical pieces. He has won numerous awards for his cartooning including three times Australian Cartoonists’ Association Editorial Cartoonist of the Year, Best Editorial Cartoonist News Awards and Rothmans Gold Medallist Editorial Cartoonist and Cartoon of the Year. He created editorial cartoons for the ABC television programs ''Difference of Opinion'' and '' Insiders'', and presented the TV history programs ''National Treasures'', ''The Prime Ministers' National Treasures'', ''Rewind'', ''Moments in Time'', "Lost and Found" for the History Channel and hosted ‘Design to Driveway’ for Shannon’s Online. Sydney ( ) is the capital city of the state of New South Wales, and the most populous city in both Australia and Oceania. Francis Birtles
Francis Edwin Birtles (7 November 1881 in Fitzroy, Victoria – 1 July 1941 in Croydon, New South Wales) was an Australian adventurer, photographer, cyclist, and filmmaker, who set many long-distance cycling and driving records, including becoming in 1927 the first man to drive a car from England to Australia. Birtles had set a speed record driving from Darwin to Melbourne the previous year. Life and career Birtles was the third child of David Edwin Birtles, an English bootmaker, and Sarah Jane Bartlett. At the age of 15, Birtles joined the merchant navy as an apprentice, but after the outbreak of the Second Boer War, he jumped ship at Cape Town, Cape Colony in 1899, in an attempt to enlist with Australian militia. However, he was attached to the Field Intelligence Department as part of a troop of irregular mounted infantry until May 1902. A fire engine (also known in some places as a fire truck or fire lorry) is a road vehicle (usually a truck) that functions as a firefighting apparatus. The primary purposes of a fire engine include transporting firefighters and water to an incident as well as carrying equipment for firefighting operations. Some fire engines have specialized functions, such as wildfire suppression and aircraft rescue and firefighting, and may also carry equipment for technical rescue. Many fire engines are based on commercial vehicle chassis that are further upgraded and customised for firefighting requirements. Dennis Specialist Vehicles
Dennis Specialist Vehicles was an English manufacturer of commercial vehicles based in Guildford, building buses, fire engines, lorries (trucks) and municipal vehicles such as dustcarts. All vehicles were made to order to the customer's requirements and more strongly built than mass production equivalents. For most of the 20th century the Dennis company was Guildford's main employer. Following a decade of financial difficulties original shareholders sold out in 1972 and Dennis's ownership has since passed through quite a number of hands. The Woodbridge site was sold and a new small factory built in Slyfield remains in use by lineal business descendant, bus-maker Alexander Dennis. No Dennis haulage trucks have been built since 1985.
