Kadina ( ) is a town on the Yorke Peninsula of the Australian state of South Australia, approximately 144 kilometres north-northwest of the state capital of Adelaide. The largest town of the Peninsula, Kadina is one of the three Copper Triangle towns famous for their shared copper mining history. The three towns are known as "Little Cornwall" for the significant number of immigrants from Cornwall who worked at the mines in the late 19th century. Kadina's surrounds form an important agricultural base for the region, and are used for growing cereal crops. The Yorke Peninsula is a peninsula located northwest and west of Adelaide in South Australia, between Spencer Gulf on the west and Gulf St Vincent on the east. The peninsula is separated from Kangaroo Island to the south by Investigator Strait. The most populous town in the region is Kadina. History Prior to European settlement of the area commencing around 1840, following the British colonisation of South Australia, Yorke Peninsula was the home to the Narungga people. Corny Point, South Australia
Corny Point is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located about to the east of the north-western tip of the Yorke Peninsula. It was named after the nearby headland, Corny Point (South Australia), Corny Point. The first pastoral lease was taken up in 1846 by James Coutts. Marion Bay is a small township in the Australian state of South Australia at the southern tip of the Yorke Peninsula. At the 2016 census, Marion Bay had a population of 172. Investigator Strait
Investigator Strait is a body of water in South Australia lying between the Yorke Peninsula, on the Australian mainland, and Kangaroo Island. It was named by Matthew Flinders after his ship, HMS ''Investigator'', on his voyage of 1801–1802. It is bordered by the Gulf St Vincent in the northeast. Discovery and exploration It was named Investigator’s Strait by Flinders on Monday 29 March 1802. Extent Investigator Strait is bounded by Yorke Peninsula to its north and by Kangaroo Island to its south. Flinders identified its boundaries with the following adjoining bodies of water - Gulf St Vincent and Backstairs Passage. __NOTOC__ Foul Bay is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the south coast of Yorke Peninsula immediately adjoining Investigator Strait about west of the state capital of Adelaide. It was formally established in May 1999, with its name deriving from the Foul Bay Shack Site on South Coast Road. It also incorporates the pre-existing "Old Wheel Inn Shack Site" and the "Point Davenport Shack Site". A government town named Nugent was surveyed at the end of Nugent Road, near the Point Davenport site, in July 1880; however, it was never developed and was declared to have ceased to exist on 11 June 1925. In 2012, a portion of Foul Bay was added to Warooka. Yorketown is a town and a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located in the southern Yorke Peninsula about west of the state capital of Adelaide and about south of the municipal seat of Maitland. Minlaton is a town in central Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. At the 2016 census, Minlaton had a population of 800. It is known as the "Barley capital of the world", due to the rich Barley production in the region. Minlaton was the hometown of Harry Butler, a World War I flying ace.
