Warley, Essex
Warley is a suburb of Brentwood in Essex, situated to the south of the town. It was notable for being home to the British headquarters of Ford Motor Company prior to their office closure. It is also home to a development of houses situated around and near the former site of Warley Hospital (a psychiatric hospital), called Clements Park. The development includes a range of house styles modelled around local themes, such as the former water tower that supplied the local area. In 2015 the former site of all the buildings and their architectural features of Warley Hospital was sensitively restored creating high specification homes which secured the heritage asset which was once on the heritage at risk register, known as The Galleries. There was also another prominent psychiatric hospital in Warley for over 150 years, known as Mascalls Park Mental Hospital, although its operations were moved to Goodmayes Hospital in early 2011. Great Warley
Great Warley is a village in the Warley ward of Brentwood borough in Essex, England. It is situated to the far south west of the county and near to the Greater London boundary and the M25 motorway. Consecrated in 1904, the Grade I listed parish church, St Mary the Virgin is noted for its art nouveau interior. A little further to the south is The Kilns Hotel which dates back to the 16th Century. History From 1894 the Great Warley parish formed part of Romford Rural District and covered an area of . In 1901 it had a population of 1,900. Little Warley
Little Warley is a village and former civil parish, now in the unparished area of Brentwood, in the Brentwood district, in the county of Essex, England. It is situated south of Thorndon Country Park. In 1931 the parish had a population of 395. On 1 April 1934 the parish was abolished and merged with Brentwood, part also went to Little Burstead. The first outbreak of the 2001 United Kingdom foot-and-mouth outbreak occurred here. Since 2003 the area around St Peter's Church, but not the entire former parish, has formed part of the reconstituted civil parish of West Horndon. Warley Hospital
Warley Hospital was a psychiatric hospital located in Brentwood, Essex, England. The site has since been redeveloped as private residences. History A site was identified within the Brentwood Hall Estate for the construction of an asylum. The asylum was designed by Kendall & Pope in the High Victorian Gothic style to a corridor plan layout. The foundation stone was laid on in October 1851 and the hospital was officially opened as the Essex County Lunatic Asylum in September 1853. Extensions included three country style homes in 1863, a new block for female patients in 1870 and another large block for male patients in 1888. A new chapel was added in 1889 and a new nurses' block in 1900. The facility became the Brentwood Mental Hospital in 1920. Brentwood Hall, which had been declared unsafe, was rebuilt and reassigned as an occupational therapy department. Following these further enlargements, the hospital had 2,000 beds by 1937. County Borough Of Warley
Warley was a short-lived county borough and civil parish in the geographical county of Worcestershire, England, forming part of the West Midlands conurbation. It was formed in 1966 by the combination of the existing county borough of Smethwick with the municipal boroughs of Oldbury and Rowley Regis, by recommendation of the Local Government Commission for England. It was abolished just 8 years later in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, with its area passing to the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell. Formation The Local Government Act 1958 appointed a Local Government Commission to review administrative structures and boundaries in England outside London. The Act designated a "West Midlands Special Review Area" as one of five conurbations in which urgent reform was felt to be needed. Albright Secondary Modern School Albright Secondary Modern School was a secondary modern school situated in Oldbury, Worcestershire (now West Midlands), England. It was built in the 1930s and named after local manufacturer Albright and Wilson. The school buildings were situated on Pope's Lane to the south of the town centre. The school's name changed in September 1974 – the same year that Sandwell was created from the merger of Warley with West Bromwich – when it gained comprehensive status and became Albright High School. Warley Town
Warley Town is an area of Halifax in the county of West Yorkshire, England. Warley is a ward of Calderdale. The population of this ward as taken at the 2011 Census was 12,215. History Warley Town was listed in the Domesday book as ''Werlafeslei''. Warley township, one of 23 townships in the ancient parish of Halifax, was also one of the biggest, stretching as far as Luddenden and what was to become Sowerby Bridge. The township consisted of many tiny settlements essentially based on the local farmsteads, places such as Lane End, Warley Edge, Winterburn Hill, Cliff Hill and Warley itself. Warley remained a small settlement until the beginning of the 18th century. Then the consolidation of the Cliff Hill estate into a major land holding, coupled with the establishment of the Congregational chapel, formed the core, around which the present village grew. HMS ''Calcutta'' was the East Indiaman ''Warley'', converted to a Royal Navy 56-gun fourth rate. This ship of the line served for a time as an armed transport. She also transported convicts to Australia in a voyage that became a circumnavigation of the world. The French 74-gun captured ''Calcutta'' in 1805. In 1809, after she ran aground during the Battle of the Basque Roads and her crew had abandoned her, a British boarding party burned her. ''Warley'', launched in 1796, was one of the British East India Company's (EIC), larger and more famous East Indiamen. She made nine voyages to the East between 1796 and 1816, most direct to China. Warley Silva dos Santos (born 13 February 1978) is a Brazilian former footballer who last played as a forward for Botafogo-PB. Warley spent most of his career at Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and had an unsuccessful career with Italian club Udinese.
