Wanli Crab
Wanli Crab is a brand name for the wild sea-crab caught by the crab-fishermen from the Wanli District of the New Taipei City in Taiwan. As more than 80% of these crab were caught by Wanli fishermen, the New Taipei City Government decided to establish a Wanli Crab brand name in 2012 to boost the market value of the branded crab. Once caught, the Wanli Crab are immediately tied up using a unique neon-green nylon cord. This unique colored cord thus becomes the identification to distinguish Wanli Crab from other crab caught by non-Wanli fishermen. Wanli District, New Taipei
Wanli District (), known in Basay as Masu, is a rural district on the rocky seacoast in northeastern New Taipei City in northern Taiwan. Wanli is a popular tourist destination and the site of the Cape Yeliu Miocene Formation which features distinctive hoodoo outcrops. The "Queen's Head" outcrop is a Taiwanese icon and serves as an informal trademark for the township. Kataw in the adjacent Jinshan District features the Wanli Taiwanese hot springs area, which is connected with the Jinshan Hot Springs (金山溫泉). History The village of Masu (瑪鋉) was inhabited by Taiwanese aborigines before the era of European colonization. New Taipei City
New Taipei City is a special municipality located in northern Taiwan. The city is home to an estimated population of 3,974,683 as of 2022, making it the most populous city of Taiwan, and also the second largest special municipality by area, behind Kaohsiung. The New Taipei City Government (NTPC; ) is the municipal government of New Taipei City, a special municipality in Taiwan. The New Taipei City Hall is located in Banqiao District. Flower Crab
''Portunus pelagicus'', also known as the flower crab, blue crab, blue swimmer crab, blue manna crab or sand crab, ''rajungan'' in Indonesian, and ''alimasag'' in Tagalog, Kapampangan, and Pangasinan, is a large crab found in the intertidal estuaries around most of Australia and east to New Caledonia. Description The males are bright blue in color with white spots and with characteristically long chelipeds, while the females have a duller green/brown, with a more rounded carapace. The carapace can be up to wide. Behaviour They stay buried under sand or mud most of the time, particularly during the daytime and winter, which may explain their high tolerance to ammonium (NH4+) and ammonia (NH3). Charybdis Natator
''Charybdis natator'', the ridged swimming crab, wrinkled swimming crab or rock crab, is a widespread Indo-Pacific species of swimming crab from the genus ''Charybdis'' . It gets its name from the ridges on the dorsal surface of the carapace. It is a crab species which is of minor importance in fisheries. Description ''Charybdis natator'' has a fan shaped carapace which is brown to orange in colour on the dorsal surface the ventral surface is bluish mottled with white and pale red spots and the legs are dark, reddish brown in colour. The carapace is densely covered with short pubescence which is absent on the distinct transverse granulated ridges in the anterior surface. There are six spines on each side of the carapace. There are eight small rounded lobes between the orbits which are set close together. The antennae are outside the orbits but are in contact with the supraorbital lobe at their base.
