Wang Hao-yu
Wang Hao-yu (; born 29 October 1988) is a Taiwanese politician. In the 2014 Taiwanese local elections, he ran for a seat on the Taoyuan City Council in District 7, which includes Zhongli District, as a candidate for the Green Party. Out of 22 candidates, he was one of 10 elected, garnering 9.06% of the votes, the 2nd most amongst all candidates. In 2018 he ran in the same district as a candidate, still under the Green Party, and was one of 11 elected out of 21, coming in 3rd with 8.68% of the vote. He left the Green Party on January 11, 2020 and joined the Democratic Progressive Party on February 6, 2020. Wang was the subject of controversy over a Facebook post in the wake of the suicide of Hsu Kun-yuan, the Kaohsiung City Council speaker and ally of Han Kuo-yu Daniel Han Kuo-yu (; born 17 June 1957) is a Taiwanese politician. The Taoyuan City Council (TYCC; ) is the elected municipal council of Taoyuan City, Republic of China (Taiwan). The council composes of 60 councillors elected once every four years by single non-transferable vote, most recently in the 2022 Taiwanese local elections on 26 November 2022. Hsu Kun-yuan
Hsu Kun-yuan (; 1 May 1957 – 6 June 2020) was a Taiwanese politician. He was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He was a member of the Kuomintang (KMT). He was a member of the Kaohsiung City Council from 1994 until his death. From 2010 to 2014 and again from 2018 until his death, he was Speaker of the City Council. Biography A Kaohsiung native, he and his elder brother Hsu Kun-lung () participated in tangwai movements in the 1980s, and they joined the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in 1986. However, Hsu Kun-lung's reputation was tarnished after being involved in a criminal case where two policeman were killed. As a result, Hsu Kun-yuan decided to continue his brother's deeds, and further his political career. In 1994, Hsu was elected a Kaohsiung city councilor as an independent, having left the DPP. Democratic Progressive Party (Taiwan) Politicians
The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is a Taiwanese nationalist and centre-left political party in the Republic of China (Taiwan). Currently controlling both the Republic of China presidency and the unicameral Legislative Yuan, it is the majority ruling party and the dominant party in the Pan-Green Coalition as of 2023. Founded in 1986 by Hsu Hsin-liang, Hsieh Tsung-min and Lin Shui-chuan, a year prior to the end of martial law, the DPP is one of two major parties in Taiwan, the other being the historically dominant Kuomintang (KMT), which previously ruled the country as a one-party state. 2020 Kaohsiung Mayoral Recall Vote
The 2020 Kaohsiung mayoral recall vote was a recall election held on 6 June 2020 to recall the incumbent mayor of Kaohsiung, Han Kuo-yu. The recall was successful, as the number of ''agree'' votes (939,090) outnumbered ''disagree'' votes and exceeded the minimum requirement of 574,996. An acting mayor was appointed by the Executive Yuan and held office until 24 August 2020, nine days after 2020 Kaohsiung mayoral by-election, a by-election was held. The vote is the largest-scale recall vote in Taiwan in terms of electorate, and is the first ever successful recall of a mayor or magistrate. Han Kuo-yu
Daniel Han Kuo-yu (; born 17 June 1957) is a Taiwanese politician. He was a member of the Legislative Yuan from 1993 to 2002, representing a portion of Taipei County for three terms. He later became general manager of Taipei Agricultural Products Marketing Corporation. In 2017, Han contested the Kuomintang chairmanship, losing to Wu Den-yih. Han was elected Mayor of Kaohsiung in November 2018, and became the first Kuomintang politician since Wu in 1998 to hold the office. He was the KMT candidate for the 2020 Taiwanese presidential election, but lost to Tsai Ing-wen. On 6 June 2020, Han was successfully recalled from his position as mayor and officially stepped down on 12 June. Zhongli District
Zhongli District () is a District (Taiwan), district in Taoyuan City, Taiwan. Zhongli is spelled variously as ''Jungli'', ''Jongli'', ''Jhongli'' or ''Chungli'' on railway stations, bus stops and road signs. Historically, the city is the site of the Zhongli Incident of 1977, the most significant event of the democratization movement prior to the 1980s.
