Wang Ching-cheng
Wang Ching-cheng (; born 22 November 1958 in Kaohsiung) is a former Taiwanese 800m runner. He held the national champion title in men's 800m six times. He is now the General Secretary of Chinese Taipei Athletics Association Chinese Taipei Athletics Association (CTAA; ) is a World Athletics-recognised member officially representing Taiwan. The current president is Yeh Chen-yen, and the General Secretary is Wang Ching-cheng. The office is based in the building of Ta .... 800m
The 800 metres, or meters ( US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional English racing distance. 800m is 4.67m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic endurance with anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Runners in this event are occasionally fast enough to also compete in the 400 metres but more commonly have enough endurance to 'double up' in the 1500m. The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee (; IOC code: TPE) is the National Olympic Committee representing the Republic of China (Taiwan). History The China National Amateur Athletic Federation () was established on 3 April 1922. Later that year, the International Olympic Committee recognized the federation as the Chinese Olympic Committee (). In 1924, Wang Cheng-ting, the president of the committee, was elected a member of the International Olympic Committee during the 22nd IOC Sessions, which were held in Paris, France. The China National Amateur Athletic Federation was reorganized on 24 August 1924 in Shanghai; the name of the federation remained the same in English but not in Chinese.
