Walter Vickery

	Walter Vickery Walter Vickery (25 October 1909 - 7 April 2000) was an international rugby union back row who represented Wales national rugby union team, Wales and played club rugby for Aberavon RFC, Aberavon. His father, George Vickery, also played for Aberavon and was also an international player, but he was capped for England national rugby union team, England. Personal history Vickery was born in Port Talbot, Wales in 1909. He had one daughter Rita, who had two children, Richard and Robert. Rugby career Vickery joined Aberavon in 1928, and in 1931 was part of the joint Aberavon / Neath RFC, Neath team that faced the 1931-32 South Africa rugby union tour, 1931 touring South African team. 	Taibach RFC Players Taibach or Tai-bach ( en, Little Houses) is a community and suburban district of Port Talbot, Wales. It is a settlement centered on the main A48 road, sandwiched between the river Ffrwdwyllt and Margam. Parts of Margam are within the community boundaries. History The "little houses" of Taibach sprang up at the beginning of the 19th century in the parish of Margam as homes for colliery and other industrial workers, some way away from the historic village centre of Margam. 	Aberavon RFC Players Aberavon ( cy, Aberafan) is a town and community in Neath Port Talbot county borough, Wales. The town derived its name from being near the mouth of the river Afan, which also gave its name to a medieval lordship. Today it is essentially a district of Port Talbot, covering the central and south western part of the town. 	Les Manfield Leslie Manfield DFC (10 November 1915 – 2 November 2006) was a Welsh rugby union international. He was the second oldest Welsh international of all time, and at the time of his death, aged 91, the oldest living man to have played as a forward for Wales. Rugby career Manfield was born in Mountain Ash, the son of a railway worker, and went to school there. He played for the Welsh under-15 side on 1 March 1930 and played for Cardiff RFC. After studying physics and chemistry at University College Cardiff, he won his first senior international cap in 1939 against Scotland. He had been chosen as a trialist for England that year, following the award of a Yorkshire cap. 	1939 Home Nations Championship The 1939 Home Nations Championship was the thirty-fifth series of the rugby union Home Nations Championship. Including the previous incarnations as the Five Nations, and prior to that, the Home Nations, this was the fifty-second series of the northern hemisphere rugby union championship. Six matches were played between 21 January and 18 March. It was contested by England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. This was the last tournament that did not feature France, which had been expelled after the 1931 tournament over allegations of professionalism and administrative deficiencies. France would be readmitted later in the year, but the start of World War II in Europe in September put international rugby on hold; it would not resume until 1947.
