Walter Micallef
Walter Micallef (born 24 October 1955) is a leading Maltese singer songwriter, born in the central Maltese town of Birkirkara. He has composed well over a hundred songs in Maltese. Childhood He spent his childhood in Birkirkara when his family home was requisitioned by the state to build a public convenience. Three of his earlier songs, all still unreleased, are "Ġewwa Marsalforn" (In Marsalforn), "Erġajt Sejjer Marsalforn" ("Going back to Marsalforn") and "Xagħar Iswed" ("Black Hair"). The first two are both played on the reggae beat and have only been performed in Valletta in 2004 and in Xewkija, Gozo in 2005. The track ''Xagħar Iswed'', was written when Micallef was seventeen years old. A literal translation of a stanza taken from ''Xagħar Iswed'', written in 1972, goes as: ''Black and wavy hair, beautiful lips, mellow smile, it's our love that I seek, I admire her and she knows all this.'' Birkirkara
Birkirkara (abbreviated as B'Kara) is a city in the central region of Malta. It is the second most populous on the island, with 24,356 inhabitants as of 2020. The town consists of five autonomous parishes: Saint Helen, Saint Joseph the Worker, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Saint Mary and San Gorg Preca. The city's motto is ''In hoc signo vinces'', and its coat of arms is a plain red cross, surmounted by a crown. Etymology ''Birkirkara'' means "cold water" or "running water". Jes Psaila
Jes Psaila is a Maltese guitarist born on 23 February 1964. Psaila began his musical career as an electric guitarist in 1982 playing with various rock groups, most notably with the Maltese progressive rock band Avatar. At that time other prominent Maltese rock bands included Marsascala-based Mirage, Over and Stratkast. With Psaila the founding members of Avatar were Aidan Zammit Lupi, Ivan Scicluna, Sean Griscti and Karl Griscti. The band gave memorable concerts in most of Malta's large venues and clubs, and was especially known for the intricate harmonised solos on two guitars. With Avatar, he supported the Ghanaian band Osibisa during a concert at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta in 1984. Zammit Lupi and the Griscti brothers left Malta by 1985 and the band never reunited. The guitarist has also played with the Johan Strauss School of Music Jazz Band. Pawlu Camilleri
Pawlu Camilleri is one of Malta's leading harmonica musicians. Born in Valletta, Pawlu grew up in the neighbourhood of Id-Due Balli, a working class area of the Maltese capital city. Son of Frankie Camilleri ''Il-Bibi'', a noted Maltese jazz musician, and brother to drummer Joe Camilleri, Pawlu has released a number of religious albums, including ''Jesus' Words'' in 1995. He is about to release another in English entitled ''Faithful''. Camilleri is also currently working on a Biblical album in Maltese, composing lyrics and melodies inspired by the Old Testament and New Testament. Two songs, "Min Jiġi Għandi" and "GĦidli Ħabib", were already performed during concerts. He has featured on harmonica in Dominic Galea's jazz album ''Tribute'', Andrew Cauchi's ''Bil-Qawwa ta' Mħabbtek'' and in both of Walter Micallef's albums, ''M'Jien Xejn'' and ''Ħamsin''. Floriana ( mt, Il-Furjana or ''Il-Floriana''), also known by its title Borgo Vilhena, is a fortified town in the South Eastern Region area of Malta, just outside the capital city Valletta. It has a population of 2,205 as of March 2014. Valletta Waterfront
The Valletta Waterfront, is a promenade in Floriana, Malta, mainly featuring three prominent buildings: a church in the middle, the Pinto Stores or the ''Pinto Wharf'' on the left, and the Forni Stores or the ''Forni Shopping Complex'' on the right. The buildings were originally stores and warehouses, built in the 18th century, and the design is attributed to Andrea Belli. The building project was officiated on 10 August 1752, with a mass festivity. The ''Forni Stores'' were used as the first British naval bakeries in Malta and were used for this function until 1844.
