The text is a reflection upon the author's simple living in natural surroundings. The work is part personal declaration of independence, social experiment, voyage of spiritual discovery, satire, and—to some degree—a manual for self-reliance. Alex Harvey is an American filmmaker, theater director, writer, producer, and musician based in Cortlandt, New York. He has directed several films, including ''Walden: Life in the Woods'' which screened at numerous festivals in 2017 and 2018 and was released on digital platforms in October 2019. He has also directed numerous regional theater productions including '' Underneath the Lintel'' and ''I Am My Own Wife''. Harvey also played mandolin in GEICO's nationwide " Happier than" ad campaign. Early life and education Alex Harvey was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. He attended Graland Country Day School there as a child and East High School as a teenager. He ultimately graduated high school from Colorado Academy in 1999. The Walden Woods Project (WWP) is a nonprofit organization located in Lincoln, Massachusetts, devoted to the legacy of Henry David Thoreau and the preservation of Walden Woods, the forest around Walden Pond that spans Lincoln and Concord, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1990 by musician Don Henley to prevent two development projects in Walden Woods. Its mission has since expanded from conservation to research and education on the works of Henry David Thoreau. ''Walden'', originally titled ''Diaries, Notes and Sketches (also known as Walden)'', is a 1968 American film by experimental filmmaker Jonas Mekas. After several years of filming everyday scenes from his life, Mekas was commissioned by the Albright–Knox Art Gallery to make ''Walden''. It was his first major diary film, and he named it after Henry David Thoreau's 1854 memoir ''Walden''. Mekas's film has received acclaim as a work of avant-garde cinema. Description ''Walden'' is divided into four sections. It shows a chronicle of events in Mekas's life, with intertitles describing the images that precede or follow them. The soundtrack alternates between music, narration by Mekas, and environmental sounds. The scenes show social visits with friends as well as various social events, such as weddings. St Paul's Walden is a village about south of Hitchin in Hertfordshire, England. The civil parish of St Paul's Walden also includes the village of Whitwell and the hamlet of Bendish. The Saffron Walden Railway was a branch of the Great Eastern Railway between Audley End and Bartlow on the Stour Valley Railway between Shelford to Haverhill, a distance of . Saffron Walden is a market town in the Uttlesford district of Essex, England, north of Bishop's Stortford, south of Cambridge and north of London. It retains a rural appearance and some buildings of the medieval period. The population was 15,504 at the 2011 census.
