Wah Yan College, Hong Kong
Wah Yan College, Hong Kong also referred to by its acronym WYHK is a private Catholic all-boys grant-in-aid secondary education institution run by the China Province of the Society of Jesus in Wan Chai, Hong Kong. It was founded by on 16 December 1919. It was a non-sectarian school when it was founded, and the Jesuits took over the operation of the school in 1932. Subsidised by the Government of Hong Kong, WYCHK is a grammar school using English as the medium of instruction (except Chinese and Chinese History). There are around 60 teachers and 800 students. It is a sister school of Wah Yan College, Kowloon. The school has an enrolment of approximately 800 students with 60 teachers and a few Irish Jesuit fathers. The supervisor of the school is Rev. Fr. Clement Tsui, S.J., who is an alumnus of the school and a Roman Catholic Jesuit priest. Wah Yan College, Kowloon (WYK; ; demonym: ''Wahyanite'', pl.: ''Wahyanites'') is a Catholic secondary school for boys run by the Chinese Province of the Society of Jesus. Wah Yan College Cats is a non-profit organization in Wah Yan College, Hong Kong which aims at looking after homeless cats which appeared in the campus of the college. It is the first to adopt the concept of college cats in Hong Kong. The teacher adviser is Ivy Ip Li Lan-Hing. The slogan of the organization is "Respect & Protect Life". Work The students in the organization are responsible for looking after the cats every day. Since establishment, the organization has taken care of about 40 cats. Apart from daily duties, the organization also promotes the message of protecting animals, and periodically writes articles for a cat magazine. Wah Yan Dramatic Society
Wah Yan Dramatic Society is an organisation in Hong Kong which performs Cantonese opera using English, also called "Cantonese Opera in English". History Wah Yan Dramatic Society was established in 1947 by Wong Chin Wah, an alumnus from Wah Yan College, in order to allow foreigners to appreciate the culture of Cantonese opera. It started with an attempt by Father Sheridan to fit English lyrics into Cantonese operas. The attempt was welcomed, so Wong, Sheridan and some other alumni established the Wah Yan Dramatic Society. Wong Chin Wah wrote English lyrics for a total of 36 Cantonese Operas, including "A Lizard is No Dragon", "The Fighting Bride", "Three Times Engaged", and "A Tale of Two Kingdoms". Notable people such as Donald Tsang, Dominic Wong, Michael Suen, and John Chan have performed with the society. Wah Yan One Family Foundation
Wah Yan One Family Foundation is a charity organization which aims at raising money for the two Wah Yan Colleges, Wah Yan College, Hong Kong and Wah Yan College, Kowloon, and also Pun U Association Wah Yan Primary School. Establishment The foundation was incorporated in 2004 by the past students of the two "Wah Yan"s, with an initial capital of HK$10 million. According to Ng Tin Hoi, an alumnus of WYK, it is necessary to raise funds to improve the teaching standards of the two schools, such as implementing small class teaching in junior form Chinese, English and Mathematics, despite the limited funding from the Hong Kong Government. The foundation plans to raise funds adequate for ten years' use. The target for the first phase of fund raising is $100 million.
