Wadena ( ) is a city in Otter Tail and Wadena counties in the State of Minnesota. It is about one hundred sixty miles northwest of the Minneapolis – Saint Paul metro area. The population was 4,325 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Wadena County. Wadena is a agricultural community and serves as a region hub for the Tri county area. Wadena is located at the crossroads of Highway 10 and Highway 71. There is many small businesses in town with several large businesses in town. Some of those large employers include Tri County Health Care, Homecrest Outdoor Furniture, Mason Brothers Wholesale Grocery, Russ Davis Wholesale, Kern Laser Technology, Timber Roots Trussing, Ag Reliant, and Willis Rubber Company. The former Commercial Hotel is a historic hotel building in Wadena, Minnesota, United States, built circa 1885. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 for having local significance in the theme of commerce. It was nominated for being an excellent example of the lodging facilities built in anticipation of Wadena's late-19th-century economic growth. Description The Commercial Hotel is a three-story brick building on Wadena's main commercial street. Part of the coursed stone foundation is visible, punctuated by two small basement windows. Pilasters flank the centrally placed entrance and rise the full height of the façade. The slightly recessed entrance has five-panel sidelights and a fanlight. The June 2010 Northern Plains tornado outbreak was one of the most prolific summer tornado outbreaks in the Northern Great Plains of the United States on record. The outbreak began on June 16th, with several tornadoes in South Dakota and Montana. The most intense storms took place the following day across much of eastern North Dakota and much of Minnesota.
