Wachtmeister Af Johannishus
The Wachtmeister family is a Swedish noble family from Livonia, who immigrated to Sweden in the 16th century. The name '' Wachtmeister'' is German for 'sergeant'. The family branched out in 1683, and was "introduced" at the Swedish House of Nobility in 1689, in a baronial and a comital main branch; ''Wachtmeister af Björkö no. 31'' and ''Wachtmeister af Johannishus no. 25''. The baronial branch was dissolved on the "sword side" (''svärdssidan'', literally "on the side of the sword" meaning without any male heirs) in Sweden on 11 July 1889, but survives in Germany, where the principal is the Prussian Count Axel-Dietrich von Wachtmeister (born 1941). A branch of the ''Wachtmeister af Björkö'' was elevated on 17 January 1816 into a Prussian, comital dignity. Hans Wachtmeister
Hans Wachtmeister af Johannishus, ( – ) was admiral general of the Swedish Navy and advisor to King Charles XI of Sweden and King Charles XII of Sweden. He served in the Scanian War of 1675–1679 and during the following twenty years of peace worked to build up the Swedish Navy. When the Great Northern War began in 1700 he was able to take his fleet to sea in good condition. He was governor of Kalmar län between 1680 and 1683. When the new fleet base was established at Karlskrona in 1681, he became governor of a new enlarged county, Kalmar and Blekinge län. Hans Wachtmeister was also admiral general over the entire Swedish Fleet at the same time that he was a governor. In 1681–1683, he took the additional title of ''ståthållare'' or stadtholder. Wilhelm Wachtmeister
Count Wilhelm Hans Fredrik Wachtmeister (29 April 1923 – 3 February 2012) was a Swedish career diplomat who served as the Swedish Ambassador to the United States for 15 years from 1974 to 1989, eventually becoming the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in 1986, as the longest-serving ambassador in the diplomatic corps in Washington, DC. Early life Wachtmeister was born on 29 April 1923 at Wanås Castle, Sweden, the son of cabinet chamberlain, count Gustaf Wachtmeister and his wife Margaretha (née Trolle). He passed ''studentexamen'' at Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska Läroverket in 1941 and received as Candidate of Law degree from Stockholm University College in 1946 and was hired by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs as an attaché the same year. Crown Equerry (Sweden)
Crown Equerry ( sv, Hovstallmästare) is a title of the head of the Swedish Royal Stables. It is also an honorary title awarded by the king of Sweden. Previously at the Royal Court there was also a Master of the Horse ( sv, Överhovstallmästare) who had the highest oversight of the Royal Stables. The Crown Equerry who was head of the Royal Stables, was named First Crown Equerry ( sv, Förste hovstallmästare). Today Colonel Ulf Gunnehed is the Crown Equerry and head of the Royal Stables. De La Gardie
The De la Gardie family (also de la Gardie) is the name of a distinguished Swedish noble family of French origin. History The family's social status in France is uncertain; the founder, Ponce d'Escouperie, son of a tradesman, came to Sweden as a mercenary in 1565 and took the name Pontus De la Gardie when registered by the House of Knights. He was given the title friherre in 1571 and married Sofia Johansdotter Gyllenhielm, an illegitimate daughter of king John III in 1580. The baronial title ended with his eldest son John De la Gardie. Baron Gerard Jacob De Geer (20 November 1858 – 24 July 1943) was a Swedish geologist who made significant contributions to Quaternary geology, particularly geomorphology and geochronology. De Geer is best known for his work on varves. In 1890 De Geer was the first to apply the name Ancylus Lake to the Baltic paleolake discovered by Henrik Munthe.
