WVMP
WVMP (101.5 FM) is a broadcast radio station licensed to Vinton, Virginia, serving Metro Roanoke, Virginia. WVMP is owned by Todd P. Robinson's WVJT, LLC. History H. Edward Hale's Carousel Entertainment signed on country WZZI in December 1995. The station flipped to a modern rock format in January 1999. Roanoke residents Karen and Robert Travis purchased WZZI in January 2000, having just purchased WRVX (97.9 FM) in Lynchburg, Virginia, which they renamed to WZZU. Formats under the Travises included alternative rock "Z101" and oldies "Oldies 101.5". In 2004, Centennial Broadcasting bought the two stations. Centennial Broadcasting
Centennial Broadcasting is a small market radio broadcasting company based in Clemmons, North Carolina. The company is led by President and CEO Allen B. Shaw. Shaw began his career in 1959, at the age of 15, at radio station WRWB in Kissimmee, Florida. History 1997-2000 Centennial purchased Las Vegas-based KJUL from American General Media for an undisclosed sum on May 13, 1997. Two months later, on July 22, 1997, the company bought another Las Vegas station, KSTJ, also for an undisclosed amount. In March 1998, Sinclair Broadcast Group sold three New Orleans-based stations to the company for $16 million. The stations included two FMs, WRNO-FM and KMEZ, and one AM, WBYU. WARJ is a radio station licensed to Shawsville, Virginia, broadcasting the Air1 network to Roanoke, Virginia and the New River Valley. WARJ is owned by the Educational Media Foundation. History The station signed on in 2013 as WBZS. From its sign-on, the station was leased by owner George S. Flinn, Jr., to Three Daughters Media, which simulcast the talk format of WIQO-FM Lynchburg. WBZS entered into a three-year lease to Community Media Group, owner of adult album alternative WVMP, on December 1, 2016. Vinton is a town in Roanoke County, Virginia, United States. The population was 8,059 at the 2020 census. Vinton is part of the Roanoke Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Roanoke Region of Virginia. History By the late 18th century, settlers began moving into the area and in 1797, the Gish family established a gristmill on Glade Creek. Afterward the area would become known as Gish's Mill. In North American broadcasting, a local marketing agreement (LMA), or local management agreement, is a contract in which one company agrees to operate a radio or television station owned by another party. In essence, it is a sort of lease or time-buy. Under Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations, a local marketing agreement must give the company operating the station (the "senior" partner) under the agreement control over the entire facilities of the station, including the finances, personnel and programming of the station.
