Fayette, Alabama
Fayette is a city and the county seat of Fayette County, Alabama, United States. The population was 4,619 at the 2010 census, down from 4,922 at the 2000 census. History Originally known as "La Fayette", it incorporated on January 15, 1821. When Fayette County was created in 1824, the town's name was officially changed to "Fayette Court House", though it was also known as "Fayetteville", which was the name shown on maps and on the U.S. Census in 1880 and 1890. It was officially shortened to "Fayette" in 1898. In 1928, Victor and Lucy Patterson began manufacturing Golden Eagle Syrup in Fayette. WRTR (105.9 FM, "Talk Radio 105.9") is a radio station broadcasting a news/talk radio format. Licensed to Brookwood, Alabama, United States, the station serves the Tuscaloosa area. The station is currently owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. and the broadcast license is held by iHM Licenses, LLC. The station has studios located on 11th Street in Downtown Tuscaloosa, while it's transmitter is located on 40th Avenue. The station started life as WACT-FM, and changed its call letters to the current WRTR-FM on March 31, 1997. Fairfield is a city in western Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. It is part of the Birmingham metropolitan area and is located southeast of Pleasant Grove. Hueytown is a city near Bessemer in western Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. It is part of the Birmingham metropolitan area, and was part of the heavy industry development in this area in the 20th century. At the 2020 census, the population was 16,776. It was the home of the famous NASCAR Alabama Gang. It made international headlines in 1992 with the unexplained "Hueytown Hum", a mysterious noise believed to be related to large ventilation fans used for an underground coal mine in the area.
