WBIG (AM)
WBIG (1280 kHz; "The Big One") is an AM radio station broadcasting a mixed-format of talk, home shopping, and sports. Licensed to Aurora, Illinois, it serves the Fox Valley. The station is currently owned by Auril Broadcasting LLC. History The station signed on December 13, 1938 as WMRO, a 500-watt daytimer owned by Martin O'Brien and operating at 1250 kHz; the North American Regional Broadcasting Agreement moved the station to 1280 in 1941. The station's programming was predominantly local, with a full service format being in place in the late 1940s. Among WMRO's on-air staff during this time was a young John Drury. Vincent Cofey and Benjamin Oswalt purchased the station in 1957; three years later, the station was granted night authorization and implemented its current power levels. Schaumburg Boomers
The Schaumburg Boomers are a professional baseball team based in Schaumburg, Illinois that began play in the independent Frontier League in 2012. The team plays its home games at Wintrust Field. The Boomers replaced the now defunct Schaumburg Flyers of the Northern League after the franchise was evicted for not paying almost US$1 million in back rent. The "Boomers" nickname comes from a common nickname for males of the greater prairie chicken species, a bird which was once abundant in the Midwest but is now a vulnerable species. That bird's nickname comes from the dance these males do in order to attract females for mating purposes. Elgin ( ) is a city in Cook and Kane counties in the northern part of the U.S. state of Illinois. Elgin is located northwest of Chicago, along the Fox River. As of the 2020 Census, the city had a population of 114,797, the seventh-largest city in Illinois. Nielsen Audio (formerly Arbitron) is a consumer research company in the United States that collects listener data on radio broadcasting audiences. It was founded as the American Research Bureau by Jim Seiler in 1949 and became national by merging with Los Angeles-based Coffin, Cooper, and Clay in the early 1950s. The company's initial business was the collection of broadcast television ratings. The company changed its name to Arbitron in the mid‑1960s, the namesake of the Arbitron System, a centralized statistical computer with leased lines to viewers' homes to monitor their activity. KSHP (1400 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a sports and shopping format. Licensed to North Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, it serves the Las Vegas area. The station is currently owned by Las Vegas Broadcasting LLC and features programming from Sports Byline USA. KSHP is an affiliate for sports in 2011 for the BYU Cougars Sports Network and the America's Team Radio Networks Dallas Cowboys. Frontier League
The Frontier League is a professional independent baseball league with teams in the Northeastern and Midwestern United States and Eastern Canada. Formed in 1993, it is the oldest currently running independent league in the United States. The league is headquartered in Sauget, Illinois.
