Warkauden Pallo -35 (WP 35) is a sports club in Varkaus in Finland, founded in 1935. The club is most well known for its successful men's team in bandy, which is playing in the Bandyliiga, the top-tier of Finnish bandy. Bandyliiga
The Bandyliiga (; 'Bandy League') is the top level of men's bandy in Finland. The league was founded in 1908 as the Jääpallon SM-sarja ('Bandy Finnish Championship Series') and the present name has been used since the 1991–92 season. Bandyliiga is organized by the Finnish Bandy Association () and the current chairman is Mika Mutikainen. The 2021–22 Bandyliiga season marked the 112th season in which the Finnish Championship was contested and comprised nine teams. Veiterä are the reigning Finnish Champions, having won the 2022 Bandyliiga playoffs. Varkaus (before year 1929 ''Warkaus'') is a Middle- Savonian industrial town and municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the Northern Savonia region, between city of Kuopio and town of Savonlinna. Bandy is a winter sport and ball sport played by two teams wearing ice skates on a large ice surface (either indoors or outdoors) while using sticks to direct a ball into the opposing team's goal. The international governing body for bandy is the Federation of International Bandy (FIB). The playing surface, called a bandy field or bandy rink, is a sheet of ice which measures 90–110 meters by 45–65 meters – about the size of a football pitch. The field is considerably larger than the ice rinks commonly used for ice hockey, rink bandy, or figure skating. The goal cage used in bandy is 3.5 m (11 ft) wide and 2.1 m (6 ft 11 in) high and is the largest one used by any organized winter team sport. List Of Finnish Bandy Champions
Finnish bandy champion is the title given to the team winning the play-off at the end of Bandyliiga, the highest bandy league in Finland. Bandy was the first team sport, for which a Finnish championship was contested. This was in early 1908 (while the first Finnish championship in association football were played later the same year). The league and the championship are administrated by Finland's Bandy Association. Finnish Workers' Sports Federation had its own Finnish bandy championship tournament 1924–1955. European Cup (bandy)
The European Cup was an annual bandy club competition between teams from Europe. The first edition of the tournament was held in 1974. The most recent competition was in 2009, but it has not been formally discontinued. Clubs qualified for the cup by becoming champions in their own national championship. This meant that only four teams took part – the national championship teams from Finland, Norway, Soviet Union/Russia, and Sweden. The tournament was dominated by teams from Russia (the Soviet Union until 1991), and Sweden. Teams from those countries won every tournament.
