Gospel Music
Gospel music is a traditional genre of Christian music, and a cornerstone of Christian media. The creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of gospel music varies according to culture and social context. Gospel music is composed and performed for many purposes, including aesthetic pleasure, religious or ceremonial purposes, and as an entertainment product for the marketplace. Gospel music is characterized by dominant vocals and strong use of harmony with Christian lyrics. Gospel music can be traced to the early 17th century. Hymns and sacred songs were often repeated in a call and response fashion, heavily influenced by ancestral African music. Most of the churches relied on hand-clapping and foot-stomping as rhythmic accompaniment. Most of the singing was done a cappella.Jackson, Joyce Marie. I Can Only Imagine (MercyMe Song)
"I Can Only Imagine" is a song by Christian rock band MercyMe. Written and composed by lead singer Bart Millard, it was originally recorded for the band's 1999 Independent music, independent album ''The Worship Project'' before being included on their 2001 major-label debut album ''Almost There (album), Almost There''. The song was the last to be written for ''The Worship Project''; in writing it, Millard drew upon his thoughts about his father's death. Lyrically, it imagines what it would be like to be in front of God in heaven; it opens with just a piano before building to include guitar and drums. After being released on October 12, 2001, as the second single from ''Almost There'', "I Can Only Imagine" became a major success on Christian radio; it spent two weeks at No. 1 on the ''Radio & Records'' Christian AC chart and became the most-played Christian single of 2002. It became an unexpected Crossover music#Christian crossover artists, mainstream hit in 2003, peaking at No. ...

Lead Me On (Amy Grant Album)
''Lead Me On'' is the eighth studio album by Christian music singer-songwriter Amy Grant, released in 1988 through A&M Recordings. ''Lead Me On'' was a departure from its predecessor, the high-energy pop album '' Unguarded''. Unlike ''Unguarded'' or 1991's ''Heart in Motion'', ''Lead Me On'' was not as mainstream compatible. Only three of its songs earned mainstream airplay, all of them insignificantly (the title song charted for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 96, and "Saved by Love" and "1974 (We Were Young)" made the Adult Contemporary chart in minor positions). Christian music, however, praised the album. It would later be named the No. 1 Christian album in ''CCM Magazine''s 2001 book ''The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music''. The title song was featured in '' WOW #1s: 31 of the Greatest Christian Music Hits Ever.'' Anniversary release EMI / Sparrow Records released a double-disc 20th Anniversary Edition of the album on June 24, 2008. The first disc c ...

Lead Me On (Amy Grant Song)
"Lead Me On" is a 1988 single by Christian music singer Amy Grant. It was released as the second single from the '' Lead Me On'' album. Content "Lead Me On" was written by Amy Grant, Wayne Kirkpatrick, and Michael W. Smith. It is a fiery song, both in terms of lyrics and in music. The lyrics, according to Grant, deal abstractly with slavery and the Holocaust. The lyrics also talk about man's relation to these events and man's relation to man. The message of the song makes it very strong, unusual for Amy Grant, who was known as a pop/contemporary artist with meaningful, but light lyrics. The music only adds to the drama of the lyrics. This is helped along by the unusual time signature of the verses, with odd-numbered bars adding heightened tension. The intro on the album version is also in 6/8 and 4/4 simultaneously. It is mostly electric guitar, in stark contrast to the natural sounding songs on the rest of the ''Lead Me On'' album. Another seemingly important aspect of the song ...
