	WMQA-FM WMQA-FM (95.9 FM, "95.9 The Island") is an American FM radio station broadcasting an adult contemporary format. Licensed to Minocqua, Wisconsin, the station began broadcasting in 1975. The station features news from FOX Radio Networks and programming from Westwood One. WMQA-FM uses Westwood One's Adult Contemporary format outside of the live and local morning show. With a 22,000-watt signal, the station covers a portion of northwestern Wisconsin and some of the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan, including the Wisconsin cities of Minocqua, Rhinelander, Lac du Flambeau, Tomahawk, and Eagle River. 	WLKD WLKD (1570 AM) is a radio station in Minocqua, Wisconsin, United States. The station is owned by NRG Media through Raven License Sub, LLC. 1570 AM is a Mexican clear-channel frequency, on which XERF-AM in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila is the dominant Class A station. History WLKD went on the air on August 1, 1978 as WFBZ, playing big band music. The station for only a short period of time became a simulcast of the album-oriented rock/country music format of its FM sister 95.9 WWMH (now WMQA-FM) before discontinuing its simulcast in 1979 when WWMH flipped its format to MOR. At the same time, WFBZ flipped to beautiful music for the next two-and-a-half years. Both WFBZ and WWMH had a couple of changes throughout the early 1980s. WFBZ dropped the beautiful music format in 1981 and flipped to MOR, WWMH dropped MOR for Top 40 in 1982, and then WFBZ flipped from MOR to adult contemporary the following year in 1983. picture info	Minocqua, Wisconsin Minocqua ( oj, Minwaakwaa) is a town in northwestern Oneida County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 4,388 as of 2017. The census-designated place of Minocqua and the unincorporated community of Rantz are both located in the town. Minocqua is commonly referred to as "The Island City." History Minocqua was officially organized in the year 1889. Although there are varying explanations regarding the meaning of the word "Minocqua", most credit its origin to the Island's first inhabitants, the Ojibwe. The town Minocqua is named after, "Ninocqua", the Ojibwe name that is defined as "noon-day-rest". In the late 1800s, Minocqua was a logging town. Minocqua Clawson was the first child born in the town. Clawson Hill was a famous landmark in town, and it is now the current location of the Pointe Resort & Hotel at the south end of the Highway 51 bridge.
