WKZW (94.3 FM broadcasting, FM, "KZ-94.3") is a radio station city of license, licensed to serve the community of Sandersville, Mississippi, and serving the Laurel-Hattiesburg area. The station is owned by Blakeney Communications, Inc. It airs a hot adult contemporary radio format, music format. WKZW began operation July 7, 1975 as the FM sister station to WIZK. The station was assigned the WKZW call letters by the Federal Communications Commission on April 8, 1998 (which were formerly assigned to the Peoria, Illinois legendary WPBG, KZ-93 and later, WPMJ, KZ-94.3 in the same market). WPBG (93.3 FM) is a radio station with a classic hits format, and is licensed for Peoria, Illinois. The station was formerly known as 93.3 WMBD-FM, as well as KZ-93 (WKZW) through 1994, "Mix 93.3" prior to its conversion to oldies/classic hits. The station is owned by Midwest Communications, Inc. WPMJ (94.3 MHz FM) is a radio station licensed for Chillicothe, Illinois in the Peoria, Illinois, area. The station has been owned by CRCI, L.L.C. since January 2010 and has broadcast a Catholic radio format since September 2009. Although the station is in the Peoria radio market, it has relatively low power and is required to put a decent signal across Chillicothe, its city of license, with that power. It struggled over the years to find a programming niche, having no less than 10 call signs in its 31 years and going off the air from October 2008 to September 2009. Official studios for the station are at 108 N. Main St. Suite J on Illinois Route 117 in Eureka, Illinois. Hattiesburg is a city in the U.S. state of Mississippi, located primarily in Forrest County (where it is the county seat and largest city) and extending west into Lamar County. The city population was 45,989 at the 2010 census, with the population now being 48,730 in 2020. Hattiesburg is the principal city of the Hattiesburg Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses Covington, Forrest, Lamar, and Perry counties. The city is located in the Pine Belt region. WIZK
WIZK (1570 AM broadcasting, AM) is a radio station city of license, licensed to serve Bay Springs, Mississippi. The station is owned by Steve Stringer, through licensee Sage Communications, LLC. It airs a country music format. The station was assigned the WIZK call letters by the Federal Communications Commission in 1987 in radio, 1987. It is one of the few stations left in the United States that are owned by an individual rather than a corporation. WHII had a sister station, WXIY at 94.3 FM on which was a simulcast of the AM programming. In the 1970s, WHII was a daytime only station, and when WHII (AM) signed off, the sister station WXIY (FM) changed to R&B format until its signoff at midnight. Southern Miss Golden Eagles Baseball
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles baseball team represents the University of Southern Mississippi in NCAA Division I college baseball. They participate as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. The team has been to 18 NCAA Tournaments and served as an NCAA Regional host in 2003, 2017, 2022 and NCAA Super Regional host in 2022. The Southern Miss baseball team has produced 19 All-Americans. and currently has 4 players on Major League rosters.
