WKQW (AM)
WKQW (1120 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a sports format. It previously had an oldies format until July 13, 2012, and before that, a classic country format until August 15, 2008. Licensed to Oil City, Pennsylvania, United States, the station is currently owned by Robert Lowe, through licensee Twilight Broadcasting, Inc. WKQW remains Venango County's only locally operated, programmed, and managed full-service radio station. History WKQW was founded in 1982 by local broadcaster and engineer Stephen M. Olszowka, but would not go on the air until December 1987. For most of its early years, WKQW operated out of an office at 234 Elm Street in Oil City. The station moved to 222 Seneca Street in 1993 when WKQW-FM went on the air. Olszowka died suddenly on February 14, 2004, at age 54 and ownership of the station passed to his mother Helen Gesing Olszowka. Oil City is a city in Venango County, Pennsylvania known for its prominence in the initial exploration and development of the petroleum industry. It is located at a bend in the Allegheny River at the mouth of Oil Creek. Initial settlement of Oil City was sporadic, and tied to the iron industry. WLOQ (96.3 FM) is a radio station in Oil City, Pennsylvania, United States, broadcasting the K-Love network and owned by the Educational Media Foundation. From 1993 to 2022, the station was a locally owned station owned by WKQW (1120 AM), last broadcasting an adult contemporary format. History In 1993, WKQW founder Stephen Olszowka successfully applied for an FM license, giving birth to WKQW-FM. The new station broadcast at 96.3 FM with an effective radiated power of 6,000 watts and went on the air with an oldies format, separate from WKQW's adult contemporary format (which would later become talk). Stephen Olszowka died suddenly on February 14, 2004, at the age of 54. After his death, his family made arrangements to sell WKQW-AM-FM to another owner, Clarion County Broadcasting, the following year. WCCR-FM is an American radio station licensed to the borough of Clarion, Pennsylvania. WCCR-FM operates at the federally assigned frequency of 92.7 MHz with an effective radiated power of 3,000 watts. This station, along with its co-located AM sister WWCH, is owned by Clarion County Broadcasting. History WCCR-FM debuted in 1985 under the moniker C-93, with a Top 40/CHR format. The construction permit to build the station was issued on February 14, 1983, with the call letters WMQP first assigned on September 4, 1984. The station never used these call letters, taking its current call sign less than a month later. WWCH is licensed to operate at the federally assigned frequency of 1300 kHz at a maximum power output of 850 watts. WWCH is a full-service, live and local radio station with a country music format. History WWCH is the sole AM radio station in Clarion County, first going on the air with a maximum power output of 500 watts on June 12, 1960.
