WIVI (102.1 FM, "Pirate Radio") is a radio station licensed to serve Cruz Bay, U.S. Virgin Islands. The station is licensed to Ackley Caribbean Enterprises, Inc. which is wholly owned by Gordon P. Ackley as part of the Ackley Media Group. It airs a classic rock format. Lonely Planet's 2001 guide to the Virgin Islands described this station as, "probably the most popular rock & roll station" in the USVI. The station had branded itself as "Pirate Radio" before a flip to the "Hitz 96" moniker on October 1, 2009 and again reverting to the "Pirate Radio" moniker in 2015. The station swapped call signs and formats with sister station WIVI on July 1, 2017. Awards WWKS was chosen as ABC Radio Network's international affiliate of the year for 1999. WVJZ (105.3 FM) is a radio station licensed to serve Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands. The station is licensed to GARK LLC which is wholly owned by Gordon P. Ackley as part of the Ackley Media Group. It airs a Mainstream Urban and Reggae music format. Lonely Planet's guide to the Virgin Islands describes this station as "the station for continuous R&B" in the USVI. The Federal Communications Commission assigned the WVGN call letters to this station on December 23, 1985. It held this call sign until switching to the current WVJZ call letters on June 15, 1998. Cruz Bay, U.S. Virgin Islands is the main town on the island of Saint John in the United States Virgin Islands. According to the 2000 census, Cruz Bay had a population of 2,743. Community Cruz Bay, located on the west coast of Saint John, is the island's largest commercial center and the location of the main port on Saint John. The primary access to Saint John is through Cruz Bay Harbor. Frequent barge and ferry, including car ferry, service connects Saint John to the neighboring more-developed island of Saint Thomas. FM broadcasting is a method of radio broadcasting using frequency modulation (FM). Tom Joyner
Thomas Joyner (born November 23, 1949) is an American retired radio host, former host of the nationally syndicated '' The Tom Joyner Morning Show'', and also founder of Reach Media Inc., the Tom Joyner Foundation, and BlackAmericaWeb.com. Early life Joyner was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, the son of Frances and Hercules L. Joyner. Tom came from an educated family: his grandfather Oscar was one of only 3,000 black physicians in the United States, earning a degree in medicine in 1909. Both of his parents were graduates of historically black colleges, and both Tom and his brother Albert attended Tuskegee Institute, now known as Tuskegee University. Tom Joyner graduated with a degree in sociology. While a student at Tuskegee, Joyner joined the fraternity Omega Psi Phi.
