WHYL (960 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Carlisle, Pennsylvania and serving the Harrisburg metropolitan area. The station is owned by Harold Z. Swidler, with the license held by WHYL, Inc. It broadcasts an oldies radio format. It also carries Baltimore Orioles baseball games. The Baltimore Orioles Radio Network comprises 39 stations in five states and the District of Columbia. Beginning in 2022, the Orioles' flagship station is once again WBAL/1090 AM and is joined by sister station WIYY/97.9 FM; a game conflict with the Baltimore Ravens sees one station carrying the Orioles, and the other the Ravens. The contract is for six years. Jim Hunter calls play by play for the majority of games, with ESPN broadcaster Kevin Brown stepping in for approximately 50 games. In radio communication, skywave or skip refers to the propagation of radio waves reflected or refracted back toward Earth from the ionosphere, an electrically charged layer of the upper atmosphere. Shippensburg is a borough in Cumberland and Franklin counties in the U.S. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
