WINC-FM (105.5 FM) is a radio station licensed to Berryville, Virginia, serving the Northern Shenandoah Valley. The station is currently stunting with Christmas music. WINC-FM is owned by Metro Radio, Inc. History In November 2020, the then-WXBN flipped to hot adult contemporary, assuming the hot adult contemporary format and "WINC-FM" (pronounced "Wink FM") branding previously heard on the Winchester-based 92.5 frequency (which was in the process of being sold to the Educational Media Foundation). The station would take over the WINC-FM legacy callsign on December 29, 2020. On April 30, 2021, Centennial Broadcasting announced it was selling WINC-FM and sister station WZFC to Fairfax, Virginia-based Metro Radio, Inc. for $225,000. WZFC (AM)
WZFC (1400 AM) is a broadcast radio station licensed to Winchester, Virginia, United States. The station carries a news, talk, and sports format. WZFC serves Winchester along with Frederick and Clarke counties in Virginia. Originally known for 80 years under the WINC call sign, the station was launched by Richard Field Lewis, Jr. on June 26, 1941 as Winchester's first radio station. The station remained in the hands of the Lewis family until sold to North Carolina-based Centennial Broadcasting in 2007. The station's current format, established in 1996, consists mostly of conservative talk programs and top-of-the-hour news from Fox News Radio. Sports programming from Virginia Tech is also broadcast. Prior formats (from WINC) include middle of the road music, adult contemporary, and classic hits. Several milestones have occurred during the station's 80 years of history. WVRX (104.9 FM) is a Southern Gospel formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Strasburg, Virginia, serving the Northern Shenandoah Valley. WVRX is owned by Point FM Ministries. WVRX simulcasts sister station WVRS. History On January 31, 2018, the then-WZFC changed their format from classic country to a simulcast of sister news/talk station WINC (1400 AM) in nearby Winchester. On November 17, 2020, both WZFC and sister station WXBN (105.5 FM) became a simulcast of WINC-FM (92.5 FM) and its hot adult contemporary format. WINC-FM's programming was migrated to the two stations in anticipation of the sale of the 92.5 FM signal to the Educational Media Foundation. Upon the sale of the 92.5 FM signal to EMF, Centennial transferred the WINC-FM call letters to 105.5 FM. WAIW is a Contemporary Worship formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Winchester, Virginia. WAIW is owned and operated by Educational Media Foundation. Coverage area With the station's transmitter located atop a mountain, WAIW's signal can be heard throughout the Shenandoah Valley, Central and Northern Virginia, the Eastern Panhandle and Potomac Highlands of West Virginia, parts of Central and Western Maryland and Metro Washington, D.C. Berryville, Virginia
Berryville is an incorporated town in and the county seat of Clarke County, Virginia, United States. The population was 4,185 at the 2010 census, up from 2,963 at the 2000 census. History Berryville was founded at the intersection of the Winchester Turnpike and Charlestown Road. The land was first granted by the Crown to Captain Isaac Pennington in 1734, and George Washington surveyed it on October 23, 1750. In 1754 Pennington sold it to Colonel John Hite. According to legend, Daniel Morgan would engage in combat with young toughs at the intersection, having first piled large stones nearby to use as ammunition in case of need. Because of this story, and a rowdy tavern nearby, the area was first given the informal name of "Battle Town". Hite sold the tract in 1765 to his son-in-law, Major Charles Smith.
