WILM (AM)
WILM (1450 kHz) is a news/talk AM radio station broadcasting in Wilmington, Delaware, United States. The station is owned by iHeartMedia. WILM is known as the station where radio and television talk show Joe Pyne developed the confrontational style now standard in radio and TV talk shows. Another well-known WILM personality was Tom Mees (ESPN) who worked at the station in the 1970s. In the 1950s and 1960s WILM, under the ownership of Ewing Hawkins, experimented with various music formats, including Top-40 and MOR (middle-of-the-road). For a time, the WILM deejays were known as the "Flip Top Jocks." One of the program directors was Dean Tyler, who would later go on to be an influential broadcaster and manager in Philadelphia radio. WILM-LD (channel 10) is a low-power independent television station in Wilmington, North Carolina, United States, owned by the Capitol Broadcasting Company. The station's studios are located on Wrightsville Avenue (US 76) in Wilmington, and its transmitter is located in Delco, North Carolina. Master control and some internal operations are based at the facilities of sister station, NBC affiliate and company flagship WRAL-TV in Raleigh. On December 31, 2016, WILM lost its CBS affiliation to a digital subchannel of ABC affiliate WWAY (channel 3) and became an independent station. Alfred Wilm
Alfred Wilm (25 June 1869 – 6 August 1937) was a German metallurgist who invented the alloy Al-3.5–5.5%Cu-Mg-Mn, now known as Duralumin which is used extensively in aircraft. Whilst working in military research NUTZ in Neubabelsberg in 1901, Wilm discovered age hardening, in particular age hardening of aluminium alloys. This discovery was made after hardness measurements on Al- Cu alloy specimens were serendipitously found to increase in hardness at room temperature. This increase in hardness was identified after his measurements were interrupted by a weekend, and when they were resumed on the Monday the hardness had increased. Clarke Wilm
Clarke Wilm (born October 24, 1976) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Calgary Flames, Nashville Predators, and Toronto Maple Leafs between 1998 and 2006. Playing career Wilm was drafted 150th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He established himself in the NHL in the 1997–98 season after two seasons spent in Calgary's AHL affiliate. Wilm was known as a hardworking and unyielding checking line centre who has also received recognition as a good penalty killer. He can play all three forward positions. After missing out on an NHL contract for the 2006–07 season, Wilm joined his former St. John's Maple Leafs coach Doug Shedden to play for Jokerit in Finland. Wilm's tenure with Jokerit lasted for two seasons, during which Wilm made himself useful as a checking and penalty killing forward.
