WFLA (970 AM) is a commercial radio station in Tampa, Florida, and serving the Tampa Bay media market. The station airs a talk radio format and is owned and operated by iHeartMedia, Inc. The station's studios and offices are located on Gandy Boulevard in South Tampa. WFLA broadcasts by day at 25,000 watts, reducing power to 11,000 watts at night. (For most of its history, from the 1940s to the early 2000s, it ran at 5,000 watts.) It uses a directional antenna at all times. WFLA-TV (channel 8) is a television station licensed to Tampa, Florida, United States, serving as the NBC affiliate for the Tampa Bay area. It is owned by Nexstar Media Group alongside St. Petersburg–licensed MyNetworkTV affiliate WTTA (channel 38). WFLA-TV and WTTA share studios on South Parker Street in downtown Tampa; through a channel sharing agreement, the stations transmit using WFLA-TV's spectrum from an antenna in Riverview, Florida. History Channel 8 first signed on the air on February 14, 1955, with a live broadcast of the Gasparilla Pirate Festival. WFLA was an AM radio station in Boca Raton, Florida, owned in 1927 by the Boca Raton Radio Corporation and funded by the Mizner Development Corporation. It was created to promote a land development project headed by Addison Mizner, and was intended be heard in "most of the eastern United States". In October 1921 it was written that WFLA would begin broadcasts on November 1. WFLF (540 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Pine Hills, Florida, and serving Greater Orlando. It is owned by iHeartMedia and airs a talk radio format. The studios and offices are in the iHeart Orlando complex in Maitland. The station broadcasts using a directional antenna at all times, with the signal extending to the east to avoid interfering with Class A stations in Canada and Mexico. WFLF-FM (94.5 FM) is a radio station broadcasting in Panama City, Florida, owned and operated by iHeartMedia. History WFLF-FM first signed on at 93.5 MHz in 1977 as WGCV, a station licensed to Port St Joe, Florida. In 1982, Don Crisp bought WGCV (as well as AM station WJOE 1080), moved, and upgraded the FM signal to 94.5 with 100 kW of power. The stations were sold in 1983 to Brown Broadcasting (affiliated with John Brown University of Siloam Springs, Arkansas). WGCV changed their calls to WJST. WJOE's calls were changed to WJBU, where they would stay until the station's last days in 1989. WJST was originally a rock station called "T-94". Initially, WJST was on a shorter, 500-foot tower (alongside WJBU), but in 1986 WJST moved to a 1,000-foot tower.
