WCRS (1450 kHz) is an AM radio station licensed to Greenwood, South Carolina, United States. The station is licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to broadcast with a transmitter power of 1 kW unlimited, non-directional. History WCRS signed on in the 1940s with a format similar to WFBC. In 1979, WCRS ended its simulcast with 96.7 FM. Peregon bought WCRS and WHZQ from Pro-Com Communications LLC in 2006. The station featured Citadel Media's Timeless Favorites satellite feed for many years. Greenwood is a city in and the county seat of Greenwood County, South Carolina, United States. The population in the 2020 United States Census was 22,545 down from 23,222 at the 2010 census. The city is home to Lander University. Geography and Climate Greenwood is located slightly northwest of the center of Greenwood County. Timeless was a 24-hour satellite music service of Citadel Media (through Citadel Broadcasting). It has distributed a mix of soft oldies and adult standards to radio stations around the United States. It was a combination of two former formats: gold-based adult contemporary Unforgettable Favorites (also known as "Memories") and adult standards Timeless Classics/Timeless Favorites (originally known as "Stardust"). WROO (104.9 FM) is a sports radio station licensed to Mauldin, South Carolina, and serves the Upstate, including Greater Greenville and some of Spartanburg. The iHeartMedia, Inc. outlet is licensed by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to broadcast at 104.9 MHz with an ERP of 2,300 watts. While on 96.7, this station was the first station in South Carolina to broadcast in HD. AM Radio
AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands.
